So far I'm loving it. More lenses will come out but there are also old diamond lenses in the rough for cheap. Anyone else going this way?

I augmented my 5d2 outfit with an A7R and 16-35 lens and could not be happier. I keep the 5d2 as a back up camera, but am really looking at an A6000 as a backup. I still have a bunch of Canon mount lenses that I use with my Sony camera.

It seems the adapters (like the metabones) add a lot of bulk to the setup - cancelling a bit of size advantage by the sony. What are your thoguhts on that?

Not really. They weight very little (the AF one I have is plastic) and add barely an inch between the lens and body. They look like they add a lot to it because the body is so small.

I made a switch from a 5d2 to an A7R and am totally loving it. Have picked up an older zeiss lens (Contax Yashica Mount) as well as a bevy of FD mount lenses. I could never manual focus accurately on the 5d2, but with the A7R it's a breeze and a welcome addition to the image taking process.

I wonder if its really worth it. Iam in the same position (having a 5dII) and thinking about either "upgrading" to Sony A7* or just adding a MFT Equipment for that money.
Sony Sensor is great but how often do you really take advanteage of it (like raising shadows much) I don't know. Also new handling and flash system? Mmmh

Adding MFT might give me more option for different things.

I had a similar thought when they first came out (was shooting with a 6D at the time) and decided to supplement my 6D with a Fuji X-E1 kit. Once I got the Fuji I found that I rarely ever used the 6D anymore, the X-E1 was just so much more convenient. The only times I reached for the 6D was during low light shooting and when doing studio work.

I sold both the 6D and the X-E1 and got the a7R first, it was a great camera, but not right for me. Sold that and got an a7S, I haven't regretted that decision for one moment.

My sister has a A6000 and it is just as quick as my 7D Mark II, with a stop better ISO. Never want to put it down when I get a chance to play with it.

I have been wondering about making a similar change. But I worry about how well the autofocus system will work if it has to go thru an adapter. I shoot fast action stuff with really big telephoto lenses like the Sigma 300-800mm and the Canon 400 f2.8. As it is, I already "max out" the AF ability of my 1D4 with said lenses.

Are you guys who have made this change really sure that the AF of the Sony, when shooting thru an adapter, would still be able to keep up with birds in full flight, or running animals like deer? Is the frame rate of the Sony even fast enough for such shooting?

I would really love the upgrade in IQ, but my fears over AF performance and frame rate have kept me from going ahead with the purchase.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Really? That contradicts pretty much every report out there including DxO (external link) and DPReview (external link).

The a7rII AF's pretty well with adapted lenses (provided they were released in 2006 or later), but its not good enough for sports or wildlife. There are some people in the a7x lounge thread actually shooting BIF and such with the a7rII so its do-able, but there are some compromises involved and its sub-optimal.

I've actually for the most part transitioned away from Canon. 5DIII is going up for sale soon. I've been using my a7rII with my 24-70 2.8II pretty heavily, but mostly single shot stuff or very simple AFtracking.

I made the switch from a 5Diii to the a7ii w/ FE lenses. I shoot landscape and my kids in cross country and swimming and have no complaints. I also picked up the a6000 for the heck of it since it's so cheap.

I travel a lot and stopped taking the Canon gear with me due to size and weight. I take the Sony gear w/ me everywhere.

Can I have your stack of Canon lenses? I tried but the lack of quality, portrait FE lenses was a deal breaker. So was the A7's horrible AF in anything but well lit conditions and the absurdly bad battery life. Test shots and a full shoot were enough, went back to Canon with a 6D. I might consider a Sony again in the future if they can actually get some FE lenses out, specifically fast portrait primes, they make a camera that can focus correctly in low light and they get better quality EVFs. Maybe by the next generation.

It's already in it's second generation, they've got several portrait options already out for the system (and they're excellent) and the AF is more than adequate especially for portraits.

And no offense, but if you can't finish a shoot with one battery with the a7 line then you're doing something wrong... I can shoot an entire day on one battery without issue, and in fact frequently do.

It sounds to me that you're just regurgitating the same usual bag of negatives the line received when it first launched. It's been the fastest developed camera system in recent memory.

The A7II may be a very good camera but I find the Sony cameras really ugly...
