Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

This week's challenge:

Congrats Frost!

I shouldn't be doing this at work, but this is fun, and I needed a small break. :)

Probably a bit too far again? I have a heck of a time masking around hair so this isn't very good.

Quick one, trying to use the original elements as much as possible.

IMAGE: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/f93fgvpfwln3yx1/contest11.jpg?dl=0

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

Also sharpened, noise reduction, narrowed, touched up the eyes and lips a bit, the aspect ratio just a tad.

Then I went into PS and got rid of the background using the pen tool, background eraser, regular eraser and then a selection mask with refinements.
Found a background I liked, added as a layer, adjusted color/brightness.
Extended the original wood post and colored it to match the scene
Crop

I might come back at some point this week and clean-up the masking a bit. I need more practice with hair.

Well, I did replace the background just to provide this lovely young lady with some complementary colors :) Ran a high pass, tweaked some other things and here it is :) Sorry, my masking job was super fast and not very precise :(

Here is my try. Replaced eyes and background, brought up the shadows, tweaked colors and contrast.

Good work with the eyes. I took a stab at trying to move them around a bit but didn't think about replacing them.

QUOTED IMAGE

I like this edit a lot, the background is very unique, and offers a perspective of this shot that I have yet to see, good job!

I think you have a very strong edit as well, good job!

Ok, this was VERY difficult, because there are things I love from each edit! This is tougher than I thought it would be! I'd pick everyone if I could, but since i have to narrow it down to one, I would have to go with itsallart, congratulations!!!
