A final throw of the dice. Similar workflow to my last one but used a less aggressive tonemapper (SNS-HDR

Okay time's up. After a slow start we got some great entries. On the hawk my favorites are: Mozes's first entry, Martin's third entry, RDWP's third entry, Bianchi's entry, and Nigel's entry. On the portrait I really like navydoc's version. I've tried various background changes with this portrait and never happy with them. Clouds....Thanks for the idea Gene! I think I will pick Bianchi as the winner with navydoc as second place.

Congrats and take it away Bianchi!

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge

Now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

Download the image file from the current week

Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (as many entries as you like)

The owner of the original image will choose a winner

The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

I gave it a try :-P

Software GIMP (external link)

Basics:
- Straighten / Measure tool
- Remove color noise / Wavelet Denoise
- Duplicate image / Rotate Colors (to have yellow leaves greener)

Get back Details:
- create a directory in the layers tab -> mode overlay
- Duplicate 2 times image -> put in the directory
Tree:

Directory - mode overlay
- 1 image Vivid Light mode / invert color
- 1 image normal - do nothing

Blur the image in vivid light mode as needed to sharpen it with / Selective Gaussian Blur... (more you blur that layer -> more it's sharpening the image)

White Balance:
Remove bad color casting by assuming the light house is white
- pick color on the lighthouse
- create a layer
- throw the color picked up on it and put that layer in Divide mode with needed opacity

cropped to my liking -> export
