Indoor Outdoor scene is challenging, so I tried to get some balance between two raw conversions, one with a 4 stop boost with retinex filter, and one without, layer masked composite.

Just a straight edit, raised shadows, lowered highlights and a bit of selective burning and dodging.

I don't know how much detail we're suppose to give on the edit. So I'll just say everything I did.

Set WB to "daylight", slight bump to contrast, cut the highlights and increased shadows. Overall clarity, vibrance and saturation got a slight bump. Increased the green saturation channel to bring out the tree a little bit.

Applied a radial filter to the entry way and bumped the exposure for inside where the ladies are sitting by 3/4 stop. Turned down the contrast for this area. Slight drop to the shadows. With slight raise highlights. Bumped clarity and saturation a bit.

Other actions of note:
Enabled profile correction
Remove chromatic aberration

Howdy folks. Been a bit out-of-touch for a while due to heart surgery. But all fixed up now and well on the road to recovery.

First thing I did was adjust the exposure on the interior. I like to do that in Lr. Here's what I wound up with:

Then I imported into Ps, cloned the background to a new layer and selected the exterior using the quick selection tool. Refined the edge of my selection to smooth out the radiuses in the archway. Pasted in this lovely statue of Buddha and did a little blur and exposure adjustment.

Thanks Mark. Went to the hospital thinking I had walking pneumonia. Came out with a quadruple bypass. Docs did a good job though. Surgery happened on 11/21 and I was home for Thanksgiving.

Ok. So time to announce the winner. Thank you very much to everyone who participated. Great edits all around. Ultimately the edit I was most drawn to was Cormac's so congratulations! Nothing too fancy but a strong basic edit that made good use of colour and contrast that left a little mystery in the shadows for the viewer to chew on. Nicely done. Honourable mention goes to timd35. I didn't think that I would appreciate this kind of look as much as I did. It was close! Thanks again everyone.

PS bumpintheroad - Please accept my well wishes for a quick and complete recovery.

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge[/SIZE]
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week
  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)
  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner
  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc (Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

I didn't really expect to win, especially my first week trying! Thank you!

So I'm curious what you guys/gals can do with this? I've messed with it a few times, and am never quite happy with the results.

Enjoy!
