It's an interesting photo to give it a try
I believe negative space is so important in this photo so I didn't do much crop

Tweaked the levels. Cleaned-up the background some. Added blur to the reflection. Sharpened a bit then noise reduction. Played with the crop for a while before deciding on this:

OK, I went totally crazy with this one; not the greatest edit but more for fun along the lines that everything is lit like a Christmas tree. I placed the boat on on a busy background of the Hong Kong harbor from my recent trip :)

Sorry guys I don't have a ton of time to write up a comprehensive response. I liked many of the edits, but the win goes to bumpintheroad!

I like that you removed the distractions in the background and I like the clean look.

I wish someone would have removed the bumpers though, those are also distracting.

Congrats bumpintheroad!

I liked the blurring of the water, I never think of that stuff :)

Thank you Vertigo. And apologies for the delay in posting a new challenge.

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

This week's challenge:

Here is my go at it. I fixed the lens distortion, adjusted the exposure, lightened up some shadows, moved the pier to the right, cropped, cloned some trees an who knows what other minor tweaks I did :)

My try, didn't like cutting off most of the photo though. Changed to portrait, made adjustments in LR, shadows, highlights, etc

Here's my take. Corrected the FE distortion, cropped, added the sunset and tweaked the colors.

Cropped square for composition, adjusted vibrance, exposure, curves and then applied splatter filter (masked off a heavier filter effect for the sky).

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

Bunch of LR Adjustments, distortion correction, fired up Photoshop and did content aware fill on the bottom right then spot healing to clean that up.
