Next 1D Release?

I've been getting into sports photography more and more, and have noticed in a few sports, especially baseball the FPS of my 5DIII really can't keep up. Swinging of bats, ball being thrown, etc etc etc. Football I've been able to get away with it, but feel I'm going to need it eventually for that as well, along with the other sports I'll be shooting come fall.

My question is, when does the next 1D release? Will it be anytime soon? I know the 1DX was released in 2012, does Canon typically have a standard of when they put out the new 1D models? If so should it be coming out sooner than later? Trying to decide on whether to get a 1DX for the Fall, or deal with the lack of FPS this year and hope for it to come out next year?

It use to be that the FF bodies got updates every 3 years. Lately Canon has been going quite a bit more between upgrade cycles.

The 1Dx II will probably be available within the next 12 months because Canon will want people at the 2016 Olympics to use them.

Just checked over a CR and there is scan little there as well. One rumor, a CR1, which means that they overheard someone who knows someone who overheard a Canon sales rep talking to a BestBuy salesperson, that there may be something in 2016.

Adorama just dropped the price by $700. Does that mean anything???

Have you considered a 7D2?

There are generally two possible cycles, announcement followed by release,

1- Photokina which is coming up in Sept, so announcements could be August or September, with release anywhere from late October to December.

2- CES, the big electronics convention trade show in January..
With release of product in February, or March.

New bodies thus could be available to the common folk as soon as November, or late as March 2016.


The money appears to be on an August announcement..

There's also the Canon EXPO 2015 New York coming up in September. This might be a good time to announce new gear.

I've thought about it. Am actually renting one for a trip to Yellowstone in a few weeks. I just am not a huge fan of cropped sensors being I do landscape shooting as well. I do have an extender though for the 400, so whatever reach I can't get at 400, I'm usually fine with at 560.

Any thing you need that the 1DX doenst have? I have a 1D Mark IV and moved from a 5D Mark III and Im very happy with the move.
