The male Indigo Bunting has been at the top of my nemesis list for at least the last 3-4 years. Imagine my surprise when the one pictured below came in close for some millet!

1.

I was quite surprised by his presence, and the fact that he let me rattle off about 10 frames. I still want images on a more natural perch than my millet trough, but I'll take what I can get! :-)

Thanks Tony! I have the hots for a Red-headed Woodpecker that's been hanging around my backyard this year. I haven't had one here in 8-10 years at least.

Red-bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker or Downy Woodpecker?

Well Steve I don't think you can call it a nemesis any longer. Love that second shot where he is stretching out to have a look at you. You know for a Nikon guy you're getting some pretty good shots LOL. Good luck with the redheaded woodpecker!

I have to agree with Ian. No longer a nemesis.
You can't get detailed shots like that and still call it a nemesis.

Great job. I think he perch is great.

Thanks so much Carol! I think you nailed it with the luck part, but we know to take all we can get sometimes. Maybe he'll not be so shy around the shutter in the future.

None of the above Tony.......this guy, but not attached to a suet feeder

Haha Ian, he's certainly moved way down my nemesis list :-)
The 2nd image was his response to the sound of the shutter, which is much improved over flying away!
Nice of you to tolerate us "Nikon" folks ;-)a It's the setup I use for hummingbirds and the Bunting just happened to get in the way.

Many thanks Jeremy! As I told Ian above, he's way down the list now. I'm glad you're tolerant of my trough....after all, it's not like he's swimming in a sea of millet.

Awesome Steve and congrats.

Always appreciated John! Not my first of this bird, but my closest and best detail.

very nice! They are everywhere up here right now and the flooding is pushing them either more dense. I saw almost 50 of them this past weekend in an hour.

My nemesis is belted kingfishers. those things are twitchy.

Good for you, Steve; very nice shots of a beautiful bird. We get them up here occasionally, but I've never encountered one.
