Recently purchased the Surui K-30x ballhead and was wondering if there is any type of solution for a carrying strap that could be connected to my 5d mark III with the Surui plate attached to the camera. Have read many a thread about Luma, BR, Op Tech and others. Don't really know which one is the best even after reading reviews. Want something that is definitely "tough" and won't cause me grief from coming lose from the camera/lens. Concerned about the screw(s) breaking or coming lose. Having the ability to slip is a plus. Luma seems expensive and think its due to the price of the material. Not concerned so much about looks...wanting durability and comfort and ease of use. Not for sure if I need something to attach to the camera so it is accessible to the ballhead and/or the strap.

Duh...just thought of something. Guess it would be possible to connect a strap to the camera and then use the foot of the tele's to go on monopod or tripod....wasn't thinking.
thanks

I own both the Luma and Peak Design Slide and much prefer the PD Slide IMHO on my 5D3 + 70-200L II.

I don't know if your plate has a strap lug, but if it does, an OpTech quick release can be attached. That's what I do with my Really Right Stuff L-plate. The QR doesn't interfere with mounting on the ballhead. I use the OpTech sling so the weight is on my shoulder, not neck. Much better than the stock strap.

I looked up the Sirui head and I see it has an Arca Swiss plate. I recently bought an interesting strap/plate system from a pretty new company. They have a good design for plate that's contoured and feels like part of the camera body. It's compatible with many Arca Swiss style heads, but I'd e-mail them to double check (they told me they were going to be getting a list together of all compatible heads soon). They also have plates for lens colars. I'm planning on buying more whenever I get other long telephoto lenses: The lens plates do make the tripod collar a nice resting pad in your palm. The only slight downside I see with this system is that there's a permanent locking loop with the camera plate. You can unlock it to slide out the shoulder strap, but it stays dangling after taking off the strap. But I don't mind it too much since it is more comfortable then the Black Rapid fastener when shooting portrait, and I don't need anything else to mount to a tripod.

They're selling on B&H now.
