Didn't see any bears yesterday. The Phantom Lake area was closed to the public because of a bear in the area vmad . Bison calving is just getting started. It was a beautiful day and the best part was very little traffic.

One month from today, I'll be setting up my tent in Canyon. Will probably get into the area a few days early and spend some time in GTNP. Will be staying in Yellowstone for around 3 weeks. Can't wait. YouTube called and said I'm wearing out their Yellowstone videos.

Yeah, and the NPS has had to euthanize the baby bison. Sad.

It's sad, but it would probably have died in a couple days anyway from what I understand of the situation. It was on its own, mom either dead or abandoned it. All the people who put it in the car did was deprive a wolf, bear or coyote of a meal.

I don't understand everything about wildlife management obviously, but I don't know why they had to euthanize the calf. Could they not have sent it to a zoo or something? I am sure it could grow up to be a zoo bison for the rest its life. Beats a lethal injection, I think.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Bovine brucellosis basically has all Yellowstone bison quarantined to the park.

Quite true. Plus, there are already a gazillion Bison living in captivity being raised for meat by ranchers. If a zoo really needs a Bison, there are far more practical channels that using one from the wild.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Got to Yellowstone yesterday, will be here for 3 weeks. Had an awesome photo op with a Grizzly sow and cub this morning. Full trip report and photos when I get home, but for now I just want to say "Hi" from Yellowstone...

Holy crap--on one hand I'd be tempted to shoot that thing all day, but you never know if mama bear is around the corner!
