Was wondering if anyone makes one yet for this lens? Seems like the best wide angle on the market but I can't use it much without a polarizer here for what I shoot

not as far as I know, and once someone does it'll be big, bulky, and expensive I guess. At 11 it's hard to keep my feet out of the picture, a CPL would need to sit right on front, be very big and have some kind of weird big holder I think. Would have come in handy once or twice recently to kill reflection on water, but I'm not holding my breath here.

If they don't make one, this lens will be almost useless to me other than real estate

Pretty sure that Lee & Wonderpana are currently working on the filter mounting system for 11-24L.
When they'll get released, that's the question you have to ask them.

I'm curious now, what do you shoot that makes a polarizer absolutely necessary?

I shoot landscapes here in Hawaii mainly.........A polarizer here is absolutely critical with the angle of the sun and it's a night and day difference. I even use one to shoot weddings if it's during the day outdoors. Your eyes literally hurt here without sunglasses so it's the same for your camera :)

polarization of the sky and in general, has never been an issue for me, but different strokes for different folks. Best stick with your 16-35's of the world if that's your thing.

There is only one reason I ever use a CPL below 35mm: they're great for reducing reflections on foliage, water, and lots of architectural surfaces like wood paneling. But, they make skies look dreadful on a UWA.

Not sure if a CPL is going to be possible for the 11mm - that's just an awfully wide angle to cover with a CPL. The Wonderpana CPL for the TS-E 17mm already looks like a frisbee (works nice though).

I can take you down Hana highway in regular sunglasses and then hand you my Maui Jims and you'll be blown away by the colors that are there you cannot see without polarization. I actually do that to people quite a bit :) Last trip over there with a photographer I know from the mainland, I had him look through the viewfinder while I rotated the polarizer and asked him to tell me when......he just said, "Oh Wow"! You cannot capture the colors properly if your camera's sensor cannot see them to begin with.

I usually have no issues with my polarizer on my 16-35L.......I did spend the extra money for a really nice one though

You might be able to get something at http://www.apioptics.com/circular-polarizers.html (external link). I would think of it as a trial type thing however because in my experience when you get below about 20 mm polarizers do strange things to light. What is directly ahead of you is seriously different than something 35 deg or 45 deg off axis.

There was a post here a few weeks back of someone with an issue building a panorama from multiple images (it was Hawaii by the way). He wasn't using anything as wide as you but numerous dark bands existed where he needed to stitch. You could do a similar test. Take a series of images with a 35mm lens to span the field of view expectedof the of the 11-24. Then look at the images noting huge variations of polariation edge to edge of the individual images.

With the front glass configuration I don't know how you could ever fit any filter on this lens.

I can't quite envision it either, at least not one that goes to 11. You can see your finger as soon as you move just a tad over the hood. But I'm also not sure it would be useful all that much, at 11 you cover so much ground, you'd have a very strange sky in most if not all situations. It would be nice to get away with reflection on water, but I can't imagine how this would be possible unless somebody comes up with some kind of weird dome shaped filter that goes behind the hood. And if that's even possible, it would be crazy expensive I think.

I didn't miss it though, when I used it in Yellowstone and the Tetons recently.

Doesn't the 11-24 have a rear drop in filter? Would that help at all?

-edit- nevermind. I've just had a bit of a search around and come to the conclusion the rear filter holder isn't going to be much use
