Doesn't the 11-24 have a rear drop in filter? Would that help at all?

-edit- nevermind. I've just had a bit of a search around and come to the conclusion the rear filter holder isn't going to be much use

The rear mount filters are not able to be rotated and hence I have never seen a polarizer for that type of application.

To the OP, the thread at https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1430956 will give you some idea of the difficulties encountered with using a polarizer on a wide angle lens. The thread is that which I mentioned above in which I suggested you take some wide angle test shots with a different lens and then observe the difference in polarization effects across the image, edge to edge especially and top to bottom to a lesser degree.

CPL on an UW is a disaster (unless used to cut reflections) whether you are on the hana highway or the highway to hell.

Yep, if you're doing a pano with a polarizer, you need to adjust the polarizer for every frame since it changes across such a large area. Ran into that myself too!

I'm sure it'd look something like the polarizers for the Nikon 14-24. Very large polarizer, but does the job

It does, but you can't use a polarizer with that configuration

I use it on my 16-35L II all of the time and it works well. I used to have a Hoya CPL and it didn't work the best. I eventually got the B&W Kaesmann CPL and it was a world of difference. They're not all made equal.......kind of like putting on some Oakley's and then putting on Maui Jim's and seeing how much better they are than the Oakleys

Even with 14mm a polarizer could give strange effects on blue sky:

See here for larger size:http://www.4photos.de …/Samyang-14mm-Filter.html (external link)

On some images at least with 14mm it seems ok. But a flat front filter for the 11-24 with no vignetting would be huge, likely about 40cm or more. Don´t know wheter polarizer filter will work with those incident angles. A spherical filter could be an option, but I don´t know a company that produces non flat polarizers.

many landscape shooters would like to be able to use ND and grads with that monster bulbous element but you might be the only person I've ever heard of that wants to use a CPL. I shoot very wide a lot and I just accept that when I want to use filters I use my 16-35L f4 IS

Ya, I could have usable images without a CPL in CA when I lived there, but the sun is so intense here that it really makes all the difference in the world. I show photographers here all of the time the benefits of a CPL here in Hawaii
