We had our first jets event in this area last weekend in Iroquois Ontario. For a first time event it was well attended & the location was a nice park right beside the St Lawrence River. the sky was nice on the Friday but rather hazy for Saturday's flying.

Love the A-10. Where's the exhaust exit?

Straight out the back of each pod. Twin turbine powered. This photo is from an earlier event this summer & it's a different A 10 but note the blast deflector which would have blown away if the fence wasn't there. Moments earlier that deflector was sitting on the ground just like the one in the foreground.

I didn't see intakes in #7 & the turbines looked smaller. What they have to work with now is really cool.
Thanks!

Frank I agree that it doesn't look like a real intake in the way we'd expect it to look but it's dual gas (or should I say Kerosene) fueled turbines. Mighty impressive (both of them) to hear & watch but the F 4 Phantom was even more impressive to hear flying. Very loud & very scale sounding. I'm guessing as to cost to build but I suspect each A 10 as flown is in the $25K range Cdn.

Geeez! I thought a Webra .61 Blackhead was expensive at under $100, even at 1970s dollars. That sport has gotten way out of hand.

Not saying they are both the same build but this is probably the kit in the photo with the blast deflector. Check what the landing gear costs.

And then you need a pair of these (or maybe a bit more powerful ones) & some accessories

^ ^ And that doesn't include the electronics! Maybe photography isn't such an expensive hobby after all? At least we aren't very likely to crash our toys! ; D

Frank not only do you still need electronics there's a lot of plumbing needed plus lots of high quality linkages & fittings that won't deflect in use plus lots of hardware you can't get at the local hardware store. THEN you need the big trailer to haul it & the ground support equipment & fire extinguishers. This one is the nicest I've seen so far but one friend has one that holds over a dozen LARGE planes.

This style is pretty common for the serious flyer.

^ ^ Very nice rig! We used to just toss a few in the trunk! Could only fly one at a time, anyway! ; D

That's rather cool. Wonder how often he'll fly that around the neighborhood. With all the technology these days it's probably got a GPS & Gyro system keeping it stable. One of the small town papers did an article on our Jets event & according to the pilot they interviewed the average time needed to assemble one of the larger jets is roughly 200 hours.

Is the Tucano (well at least that's what the RAF call them) actually a turbine, or was it just slipped in? I know the RAF like them as they actually have a better performance than the old JP, so are good for initial training on managing a jet engine while being relatively cheap to run. I think it's after Tucano that pilots then stream Heli/Multi engine transport/Fast jet in the flying training system.

The Tucano is a real turboprop and I forgot to take that prop into consideration when shooting the event. When I got home & started checking my photos I was trying to understand how I almost froze the prop in every shot thinking I'd shot using my regular prop plane settings & suddenly the light came on!!! I never changed settings except for the heli.
