...NOT!

I visited the "Focus on Imaging" show at the NEC (Birmingham UK) yesterday and noticed a B&H stand!!! Right alongside was a nice young female, handing out B&H product catalogue/brochures.

I took one and immediately asked the question - have you opened in the UK - eagerly awaiting a positive response, until she replied - "No we are still based in New York"

Come on guys - just how cruel a trick is that!!!

I'm sure they do, but you then take pot luck with the import duty and VAT!

B&H is great. I get items at the lowest shipping price (UPS ground) next day (I live in New Jersey). Prices very competetive, too! Waiting on my Samsung 244t monitor that I ordered yesterday, hope it gets here before the snow gets bad!

To bad for you, the most interesting thing about B&H is the store in New York City. It is a great place to try out first hand almost everything you want in photography.

I gotta stop in one of these days.. I understand it is like a best buy for Photography type of superstore environment. That being said, it is impressive that given their high-rent location, that their prices are so competetive, kudo's to B&H!

I bought my 24-70L at Beach Camera in central NJ (closer to my house) and they were perfectly willing to let me play with the lenses. The store isn't nearly as large as I hear B&H is, but the prices are competetive.

I'm such a consumer/gadget addict!

Is there a large dedicated photographic store here in the UK, or somewhere predominantly camera equipment? You would think someone would corner the gap, because Jes**ps are a waste of time.

You would think with all the "out of town" superstores that we now have (in the UK) you would think that somebody would wake up to the fact that theres a HUGE customer base out here just desperate to give them our money - (for equipment at the right prices ;-)a)

So they're touting in Birmingham -- what gives -- is there any prospect of them crossing the pond? (Jessops and Warehouse Express beware!) :D

I was at Focus on Tuesday, and it was a little annoying that they were there handing out catalogs. Did they actually transport people over just to hand out catalogs??? Guess so. I would have loved to have shopped their stand at US prices. Yet, if they did open in the UK, they would sell at UK prices, so it would be the same as getting from WE or Jessops. :( I am happy to wait and buy when I go over for a visit in May :D

whats the deal in the UK anyway, taxes, petrol, consumer electronics.. real estate is no bargain either. is this all to pay for healthcare?

We just have high prices because we can. People often get what they pay for so we get the best of everything here. We leave the bargain hunting for you guys ;)
