Hi

Recently I purchased the 6D from ebay member from the US. There were just three languages to choose from - English and two asian (some chinese or korean, have no idea which logograms are what language).

So my question is - how can I upload more languages? I know there is 25 or so menu languages for EOS 6D, but not in my 6D body...
I was searching thru the Canon official website, but there was nothing about that issue.

Thanks for your help!

Menu language is a firmware thing I believe. Has the firmware of the 6D been updated recently or is there a new firmware available.

You could try down loading the current firmware and installing that. The current firmware for the 6D is 1.1.6..

6D language menu attached.

You may be screwed by somone who had purchased the camera in Japan. Go to
http://photo.stackexchange.com …n-3-menu-language-options (external link)

Extracted from that thread is the following

Apparently around 2009 or so Canon began making all models they sell in Japan with only two or three language options in an attempt to discourage grey market purchasers. Even if another firmware version is released, you will still only be able to select from the languages originally included in your camera's menu.

One purchaser from Australia mentioned on a discussion board that the local Canon Service Center said it would require a main board replacement to enable the full range of languages included in the cameras intended for US and Europe. Cameras sold in other Asian countries, such as India and Hong Kong, also have a different list of languages stored in the camera's main board, according to this discussion.

"according to this discussion" in the quote above refers to the thread on this board relative to the 7D having the same characteristic when purchased overseas. See https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=831140

Perhaps a reason to stay clear of grey market cameras should you desire some language other than English.

This is no firmware issue. The camera is bought in Japan and that´s why the camera has three languages. Japanese, Chinese and English. I have the same because I once lived in Japan.

OK undrestood. So this must be a Japanese camera then. I have the newest firmware too. Well, that's not the most important thing for me to have different languages on my 6D, I can use it with English menu too.

Thinking ahead, you may have service issues if you attempt to deal with Canon directly so if you hear of a good independent repair place make note of its name/address.
