I have not shot surfing since I picked up this lens - those are great shots and they remind me that I'd love to get out and shoot some surfing sometime soon :)

Minimal crop (about 25% to the right for framing purposes)... Canon 1Ds3 + 200 1.8L + Kenko Pro 1.4x and 2x TCons (stacked)... ~560mm @ f/5.6... This one was stopped down to f/7.1 @ 1/1250sec shutter speed, ISO 400...

Yes looks like the old 600/f4 okay, the foot for the tripod mount is much smaller on the 300/2.8L
