Hey to everyone.

My name is Zak Viemon and I have been shooting Nikon for the last 15 years.

I literally have owned almost every Dslr made by Nikon and almost every lens old and new apart from all the 400mm plus side.

All my life I wished that Nikon would make a Nikon D4s camera in a small package since that was my dream camera and the camera I had come to love more than any other.

Sony made my dream camera when releasing the A9 but the ergo was so horrific that I never bounced.
Then Nikon released the Nikon z6 and z7 cameras.

What a disappointment. No secondary slot, and the one feature I adored on my 3 Nikon D4s’s, the astonishing 3D tracking was completely unusable.

Then Sony came out with the a9 ii. But ergot was still horrible for my taste.

Then I crossed my fingers and hoped that the next gen Nikon mirrorless cameras would be what I craved for.

What a disappointment again.

It was at that point in my career that I decided that Nikon was no longer a viable option for me.

It was then that Canon decided to release the R6 and R7 bodies.
My oh my. Finally my dream came true.

The camera that I patiently waited Nikon to create was finally released by Canon.

The sensor of a 6500 dollars body, 1dx mark 3, 3D tracking to die for (servo), tilt screen, high burst rate, tilt screen wonderful ergos, perfect body for only 2500 euros.

I knew Nikon would at some point release a D6 replacement in a mirrorless package but I wasn’t going to drop 7000 dollars on that body.

So I sold all my Nikon gear, 3 Nikon D4s, 2 Nikon D4, 2 Nikon dfs, the 85 1.4d, the 85 1.4g, the 120-300 sigma 2.8f sport, the 300 2.8f Nikon, the 70-200 2.8, the 15-30 tamron 2.8, the 24-70 tamron 2.8, all my primes and believe me they were a lot and I decided to jump ship.

I bought an R6, the 28-70 f2 to replace all my primes, the 85mm f2 to replace my macro and portrait lens, the 17-35 tamron 2.8-4, and finally the lens I craved for all my life.

The 200mm 1.8 f.

It works like a charm on the R6 and the ef to r adapter.
My model number is UG 0511.
It came with protection covers those military coloured ones. The glass elements hare perfect inside, no crystallisation from glue evaporating, no fungus and almost None dust particles.

So happy for that. The exterior body has seen little to no wear. There is only a small dent on the lens barrel in front not affecting anything.

This lens is crazy sharp!!!!! And I mean it. It blows my previously owned 300 2.8 Nikon out of the water.

It is difficult to find the drop in filters but I overcame that problem by buying the vnd filter for the ef to r adapter.

This lens is something else. And the focus speed on my R6 is FAAAAAAAAAAST!!! Tracking fast paced subjects like a charm.

Will post some photos really soon. Sorry but not sorry Nikon. We had a good run but I am never looking back.

Nice to find this thread.

Welcome to the Light side :)
I've owned the 200mm f/1.8 twice, and it truly is an amazing lens! I wish I'd held onto mine long enough to try it on the R5, but I'm pretty happy with what I have. Enjoy.

P.S. this is the R6 thread as well;

Welcome in Canonland and congrats on your purchase!

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you were never craving for the Nikon 200 F2 to be paired for your D4S? Especially the V1 version was available at reasonable used prices (more or less the same as the Canon 200 1.8) and save for the nanocoating and improved VR it was optically identical to the much more expensive VII.

I had the combo and got some pretty amazing shots with that (at least for my capabilities of course), just sold it because I found a very good deal on an EF 200 F2 that plays much better adapted to my Sony bodies :-)

Enjoy your Eye of Sauron!

I was that close from buying it but then a 120-300 2.8 came down my road.
For theaters and sports was the one I was going for but then I just kinda lost interest in that lens.

Then the serious mirrorless era begun and I wanted to see something from Nikon to hold me.
When that didn’t happen and after the release of the R6 I switched everything.

Even the eos ef to r adapter is more pro oriented than what Nikon offers to my eyes, because the filter version that I currently own gives life to this beast of a lens.

I made a search for the original 48mm drop in filters and the price was around 160 for the cpl one, and 180 for the one that takes screw in filters.

But the vnd filter for the adaptor saves me cost even if it is 3oo euros, because I can use it with all my ef lenses + the 200mm 1.8f.

The 48mm drop in filters were like gold. Very hard to com by when I was looking. I expect even more so today. I had managed to acquire the entire set. (clear, CPL, etc.) Sold them with the lens though.

There was some cross compatibility with the newer version, but it only worked one way. ie: one could actually use the 48mm drop in filters in more modern lenses that specified the 52mm filters, but the opposite sadly is not true.

I'm actually still debating if at least a CPL would be worth or not with such a lens, every piece of glass you put in front of it (or better in the back in this case) makes me a bit wary, and not sure that at that FL would actually be that beneficial, save if I'd have to picture some water or other high-reflective surface..

^ It's definitely worth the investment... Let me see if I can dig up any images with the CPL...

:)

edit: the last two landscape shots I recently posted used the 48mm drop-in filter... FYI... I'll look into more with water and/or highly reflective surfaces...

Thank you, just to be totally clear: I own the 200 F2, not the Eye of Sauron, so for me in case it would be the easier-to-find 52mm drop-in filter.
I'm not questioning the CPL usefulness if you shoot also landscapes with the lens, but considering that I'm shooting 99% of the time people, I was actually wondering if it would have been worth anyway the expense (which I tend to think no).

^ So you would like to know if a CPL would work for portraiture work? Just want to make sure that's what you're asking, Tirpitz...
