I need a new monitor - not too expensive - say a max of £150 spend.

Would you get an IPS panel or a TN panel (24" screen) to do both PC Gaming (Battlefield, Call of Duty etc.) as well as Photoshop?

Obviously a fast response time in ms is required for gaming.

I've read somewhere that a high quality TN display can perform better than a low quality IPS display.

Links to suitable ones from UK sellers appreciated in your answers...

Decision needed by Wednesday midnight...

Paul.

I game on a u2412m and have had no issues whatsoever when playing a game like Counter Strike Global Offensive, which you might know can be a pretty twitchy game. I want a 120/144Hz higher res monitor (like 1440 or 4K) when they become more affordable which seems to be getting closer and closer with G-Sync and Freesync becoming more widespread.

Like this 1440p/IPS/144Hz (external link) is my wants because of my GTX 970 but currently that price tag sits at $799.99.
If I had an AMD card like a 290/290x/390/390x I'd give something like this a good looking to. (external link)

Look at this site. http://www.144hzmonitors.com …s-buyers-guide-july-2015/ (external link) It'll give you all kinds of recommendations.

For gaming, I'd consider higher refresh rates over response times unless I was being paid to compete but my Gold Nova I rank in CSGO is a good reason no one would give me money to play :-P

TN monitors are not true 8-bit, but 6-bit with dithering to try to emulate 8-bit. Don't expect good colour quality from them. TN panels were sort of attractive (and the market was saturated with them) back when the difference in price 'twixt TN and IPS was very, very considerable. This day an age, it's a no-brainer.

I would get a IPS screen before getting a TN screen.

I play games, just finished FrayCry 4 and had no issues with the current Dell monitor which is an IPS. the response time may be slightly slower than in a TN screen but I would rather have the better colour reproduction.

I can't tell the difference between the response times anyway so a few extra ms doesn't matter. Plus with the better colour production the game looks better.

I don't play games very often, but my IPS display works just fine, I think that anything is fine outside of competitive gaming where you really need the advantage of fast refresh and response. 144hz IPS displays are already starting to come out though, so it won't be too far off in the future where you won't have to choose.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.
