Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S and the Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF

What are your thoughts on these lenses. Im looking for a prime and zoom to put on my Nikon d700

I love my 24-70. It does the bulk of my work. Its pretty big and heavy though. If you dont need 2.8 you should consider the 24-120 F4

I have never been a fan of the 50mm focal length. Personally I'd go for the 35mm Sigma Art if you are looking for a prime.

any other ideas for a good prime 35mm lens

I'm not much of a fan of the 50/1.4D personally. If sticking with Nikkors, I'd go with either of the 50mm G's. The 1.8G is a great little lens ignoring the insanely cheap price

The 24-70 is an excellent lens, only marginally bettered IMO by the Canon mk2. The Tamron is also pretty good on Nikon but if you also have their 70-200 USD VC you might notice that they report as the same lens on your body
