You'll probably love a 750. Probably not love a 6D.
You might also consider a 7D2.

lol, now you're going to cost me cash - I'd heard somewhere the 135 f2 wasn't that hot - now I've taken a quick tour of flicker it really looks pretty nice, but not the cheapest!!

Thanks though (my wife may hunt you down though!!)

The 135L kicks major booty.

Like most of the older / middle generation L lenses, the 135 L definitely has some of the creamiest bokeh ever; it epitomizes Canon's advantage over all others with the ginormous lens mount that allows for so much extra glass. Bigger glass = better bokeh, which is why Nikon's smaller, older F mount has had to do all sorts of backflips just to get gorgeous bokeh out of a 58mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4.

But, also like most older L lenses, it's still not that hot when you throw serious blooming edges at it. CA and PF aren't show-stoppers on the 135 L, that's for sure, however just take a look at the Canon 35 1.4 L mk2, and you'll get a taste for both the flawlessness possible with today's technology, and the prices that go with such flawlessness unfortunately. If they put the BR technology in a new 135, lord knows what it'll cost, but it'll be even more flawless than before.

Same goes with the Nikon 135 f/2 DC, since this is a Nikon topic. The existing 135 f/2 does have some gorgeous bokeh and incredible sharpness, especially when you either understand the DC settings, or at least don't fiddle with them. But again, it's not the most flawless lens when it comes to fringing / blooming. A newer version would, again, cost a boat-load of cash, (especially compared to something Sigma might have to offer, eventually...) ...and be even more amazing.

Personally, I'm a fan of classics. As long as their quirks / flaws don't truly impede my ability to get a shot, I don't have that gene, that fanboy / kool-aid drinking gene, that causes me to feel inferior if I don't own the absolute best everything. I like classic lenses, and I even like doing professional work with them. So personally I'd probably go with the existing 135's, from either Canon or Nikon, and just shrug it off when a new one comes out. Unelss a Sigma Art one comes out and is truly dirt-cheap, (and can focus worth a damn) ...or if a new Nikon one comes out, and is significantly better at focusing than the existing Nikon. But Nikon's oldschool AF-D motor, despite its noise and archaic mechanics, does still work very well.

Coming into this a bit late, but will post anyway for anyone else who comes across this thread as they research Nikon and/or Nikon D750. I have 5 DSLR bodies:

Nikon D750
Nikon D810A
Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 1D Mark IV
Canon 6D

While each have their pros and cons, I have listed them in order of by my personal preference. The D750 is my go-to camera for most situations. The only reason I would choose one of the Canon bodies is because my Canon glass collection. Most of my pro-level work is done with the Canons, but if I know I'm not going to be using any of the big glass, I go with the D750. Love the wifi and iPad integration, the adjustable LCD screen, and the fast focus.

I bought the D810A specifically for astrophoto work, which replaced the Canon 60Da. The differences between these 2 astrophoto cameras is a lengthy list, but most intriguing is the fact that I can use the D810A for daytime work, whereas the 60Da is limited to only astrophotography (I have used it for sunset landscape shots just fine). While the D810A shutter, dynamic range, and button arrangement is amazing, the D750 is still my favorite.

I've gone through more gear than I care to mention! Just had to ditch EVERYTHING for a house down payment. Thankfully after we close I might have enough for a body and a lens again.

The last two bodies were the D600 and D700. I love 'em both. Didn't think I'd miss video moving from the 600 back to the 700 but I did. The D600/D610 is SO competent. That said though, I can't help but lust after the D750. After the 1D Mark III debacle I never thought I'd consider going back to Canon, but I'm VERY interested in the 5D III! Seems stupid, the D750 by all rights is better and less expensive. Something is calling me back to Canon though! The body size, simplicity of the buttons and dial...I dunno...

*whoa! My 6000th post! Only took 11 years LOL

If it helps you at all I've had both and the D750 is much better for AF, dynamic range and once I got used to it even everything being backwards seems normal now.

Now if you're looking for a crop the new D500 looks pretty interesting, but of course it all depends on what you shoot.

Yeah, it only makes sense to buy the D750 - Been entrenched with Nikon for quite a few years now and know their cameras. It's the Canon name calling me back! Bastards!:-P

For all of the talk about Canon Menus and button layout is better than Nikon, even after 6 months my 6D still doesnt feel anywhere near as good as my D600 did. I would like to try the D750 at some point.

I think it depends on where you were raised. I was born Canon and moved to Nikon. The Nikon menus are fine of course, but the Canon ones just seems easier but I think it's just because of the amount of exposure (PUN) I've had :D

PLUS! Some Canon lenses are impossible to beat. 85 1.2L, 125L, 50L...

The 135L is outstanding, that said the 135 on Nikon doesn't look too shabby either.

The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason that I switched from Nikon to Canon is because I lusted after the 135L for years. I could finally afford to buy it and a FF, so I dumped my Nikon equipment and bought a refurb 6D and 135L.

So far I have been disappointed. But I wil give it one more summer before I throw in the towel and switch back.

Here are a couple BIF samples with the D610. The first is not a magazine shot, I know. But, it was a looooong shot and heavily-cropped, and on a completely overcast day. In fact, it started raining shortly after this shot. It was taken with the regular (but my semi-beloved) 70-300 VR. A better lens and a better photographer may have provided better results. The second was with the same D610 and 70-300, but much better conditions. Good light, and closer range. I'm sure the D750 is better, but is the D610 good enough???

Wow! How much crop? I'm back and forth on the 750 and 610 myself. I like the high ISO performance of the 750, but I always try and keep it 800 or under anyway, if I can. So mostly a moot point. Obviously the 610 can track.

Happy to hear you were able to spring for the D750. I think there's an AI-S version of the 135 f/2 that might save you some money if you don't might manual focusing.
