According to the Sony marketing material, moving the wiring behind the sensor reduces the amount of heat that hits the photo diodes. This should reduce thermal noise seen with long exposures. I dont believe anyone had tested this though.

a7R II: gonna be amazing!! :D

Here's the link to the 321page "How to use Guide" pdf file for the a7rII. I've just started browsing through it and noticed that in manual mode, Bulb is available.

Probably if I hadn't pointed it out, no one would have ever noticed. At least the very few that DON'T read the manual. ;-)a

I'll have to check but I don't think the a7r has a Bulb setting.

On the a7R bulb mode is engaged by setting the camera in manual mode and dialing the shutters speed past 30 sec.

This just gives me another reason for having the 5DS AND a7R II. :)

I really think you should do a follow up once you get the A7RII and then you can compare it to the 5DS and let us know your thoughts. To me the 5DS is impressive, but the DR and noise performance is typically not impressive

Sounds like the same as the a7rII. I've never had the need to use it so wasn't sure if the a7r even had a Bulb mode.

And the source for that image, along with many others (raw and jpg), would be here.. http://www.photographyblog.com/previews/sony_a7r_ii_photos/ (external link)

It's insane.. I don't know where that is to get a feeling for the actual height, but you can almost make out the graphic on the balloon.

(full size jpg is biiiig) -> http://img.photographyblog.com …photos/sony_a7r_ii_38.jpg (external link)

Edit - Nottingham Council House.. Can't find an exact figure but I'm guess that balloon is roughly 70-75 feet above the camera.

The files are impressive, but the lens doesn't appear to be very outstanding.
