Doesn't the 5Ds sit approximately where the Mk III was at its introduction? Seems I remember it being around that.

That brings up an interesting question, at least for me when I've been contemplating a Mk III like forever.

Where is that going to put the Mk IV in the lineup price-wise? Certainly, they can't intro it at $3500 or it will never sell. Can't bring it down too low or it trumps the Mk III (cause it will stay around at least until stock runs out and likely longer) and even the 6D (or the "future" Mk II for that matter).

Any speculation where this is all headed from a pricing standpoint? I understand it's all spec at this point but I think it would make an interesting conversation.

My guess is the 5DIV will hang at the Sony A7rII price - $2999 to $3100.
It will have to have some very real improvements to start out here.

If they push the 5D3 price down lower, then it will move the 5D4 lower - also possible.

I don't see it pricing above a 5Ds either.

Time will tell.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

it'll be around the same price as the MK III probably...the MK III's value will drop considerably...as happens to all older cameras after the newer ones come out

introduction prices were:
5D $3299
5DII $2699
5DIII $3499

so with the MK III's now selling for $2799, i'd expect the IV to be between that and $3500...of course this is at introduction, and it'll drop a bit

If the 5DS R is $3,900 ( lucky you stateside folks its $5,120 in the UK vmad ) the 5 D4 should be $3,500. Still allows them to sell the tail end 5D3 s until stocks run out, and leave the 50 MPS body at a premium.

The alleged 5D4 specs dont look that revolutionary 'same old sensor'. Maybe continuous AF in video ( dual pixel style) - it should have 4 K video but doubt it , as that would hurt their Video DSLRs. Thats a problem for Canon, one Sony and Nikon dont have.
I am interested in the 5DS R when the price drops - which I expect to be soon, as I dont see many posts about it, so I assume its not selling well, purely due to a ridiculous price.
If the advance spec rumours are correct for the 5D4 There seems little to make me rush out and buy one. What would I get ? That my 5D3 doesnt already do.
I would have been interested in A 5D4 if it had say a 36 MPS sensor. But the Sony A7R II with 42 MPS, 5 axis IS, continuous AF in video and 4 K Video! really raised the bar unbelievably. If Canon only respond with a 24 MPS ( same old technology sensor as the 5D3 ) then I would skip a generation or more like likely go for the 5DS R. ( so long as it proved to be bombproof ).
