After purchasing the canon 5d mark III last April (which I throughly love) and messing with it and looking at "things" on POTN I have this urge to get one of these. 2 things that are motivating me are the FPS AND the reach that the crop camera gives you. Purchased a 30d back when they came out and pretty much used it for simple family stuff. Static pictures of the family and what not. With todays cameras the higher ISO ratings really have an impact on what a photographer can accomplish. Anyway, for the price difference between the 2 (which I think is right around 3 or 4 hundred dollars I am still up in the air about which one. Even if I bought used there would still be that difference.

On this camera, and after following discussions as they pertain to performance and reliability I would even consider purchasing a refurb, used or grey market. One thing I am really not convinced of is which one would perform better in regards to capturing video. I have read that the 70d does real well in this area.

Anyway, if somebody could chime in I would definitely be grateful....

Yes money is an issue but I don't mined putting out more for the 7d mark II if it offers a "better" solution.

So in a nutshell my priorities are in order of relevance....

1) reach (same)
2) shutter speed (7 vs 10) beats my 5d mark III significantly
3) AF not sure here
4) capturing video
5) how close are the camera features to the 5d mark III (should of listed this higher)

right now I am leaning towards the 7d mark II...just looking for a significant reason why I should go with the 70d.

thanks

john

after posting this I just looked down and saw another post about the same thing...debating on whether to delete this and/or just follow the other one. If I was giving a recommendation I sure would not want to waste my time posting the same thing...LOL
so if nobody responds I understand

TRIED TO DELETE BUT 1ST POST CANNOT BE DELETED

7DII in all aspects. The only part where the 70D is better is the vari-angle LCD screen for video.

I have both and I agree with the above statement. The variable angle screen is also nice for macro photographs.

I kept my 70D because I shoot macro every once in a while and I thought I would use it for that. I have never used either camera for video.... we have a good video camera for that.

Now for the truth telling part: I've had my 7D2 since November. I've checked the battery levels on the 70D a couple times but haven't taken one photograph with it. The 7D2 is just that good.

any more comments about the two... I am trying to decide between the two. Wildlife/birds/landscape seem to be my focus.

Unless you need video with the swivel screen and the touch screen.. Hands down it's the 7DII.

Want to see some examples, scroll around in this guys blog:

1Dx and 7DII are used a ton.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

I also vote for the 7Dii. Better built body, rugged construction. the 70d is targeted to the general consumer.

Good lucks.

If you have been looking at the 7D mark ll like I have, I just saw a B&H special for the body and a canon printer for around $1250 after a rebate. Even if you don't want the printer, you get a great camera! Ordering mine tonight.

Again, thanks all for the advice. After much thought and research I chose the 7dii. I was able to snag a barely used one for just around a grand. I thought of my primary use for it, wildlife, then worked from there, some video, landscapes, and night stuff. I have my 5dii, and will also be using that. Plus, I figure the 7dii will be the last crop frame I buy for a long time. I greatly appreciate all the advice and help in this decision. I am looking forward to early next week when the mail arrives, just in time for my 3 day Yellowstone Trip over Labor day weekend! Thanks again, Cole

I would also suggest the 7D mark II too! Just like you, I just read reviews about how good this camera is and how close it is to image quality from the 5D mark III, which member teamspeed have done on his test/reviews.

I truly like getting the 7D mark II that I have sold my Nikon D750 just to get this one! :)
