Later this year I'll be upgrading my 7D to most likely a Sony A7 or 5D MKIV (depending on specs and if it even happens). I have a trip coming up in a couple weeks, taking my 7D and not taking a laptop. I only have a couple CF cards which usually do me fine locally. For this trip just two cards won't cut two weeks worth, so I have to buy another, yet don't want to further invest in CF cards. It makes more sense to move on to SD cards at this point. To do this I'll need a CF to SD card adapter that will work with my 7D. I don't do sports and rarely birds, but I need a reader that will at-least handle an occasional HDR (3 shots).

Could someone here recommend a reader that they've used and have had good success with.

Thanks

Actually don't you need an SD to CF adapter? That can be a mixed bag, some people say they work fine but there are others at the othe extreme. Why not rent? See http://prophotorental.com/product.asp?pID=116&c=15278 (external link) for a 32 GB Sandisk CF for $31 for two weeks. Another alternative is to check libraries or hotels along your route and carry some DVD's. Most libraries/hotels have PC's with burners.

Or you can buy Sandisk Extreme 32GB from B&H for $40. $9 more you own it forever

Thanks guys. What I decided to to was wing it. If I foresee that I'm running short while in Boston, midway through my trip, I'll stop at Hunt's and pick up a card. Granted, a few dollars more, but consider that payment for convenience. I already called and they say that they always have them in. If I run short in NY, then I'll stop by BH and so on and so forth for the other cities. This way I'll only do if absolutely necessary. Thanks for the tips though, much appreciated.

Before my 7D I owned a 650D (Rebel T4i).
To use the SD card in my 7D I use a CF to SD adapter.
This one:

I recently used two 32GB SanDisk cards without any problems.
I used them on a hollyday so speed (FPS) was not important.
Over 2500 pictures taken :-)

This adapter was sold as 'not compatible with Eye-Fi'.
But curious as I am I bought an Eye-Fi Pro card.
Within 3 meters (about 10 feet) distance I can use the WiFi transfer between my 7D and my laptop.
Because the adapter uses metal the WiFi througput is slow.
One Raw file takes 20 to 30 seconds to transfer if I place the camera close to the laptop.
OTOH I now have some sort of WiFi on my 7D.
The next thing is to experiment with a WiFi repeater (TP-Link MR3040) to get a longer range.

Another issue is the 7D series uses a magnesium alloy extensively in the body and this does a good job of blocking WiFi signals. In contrast, the 6D, the first Canon DSLR to be equipped with both built-in Wi-Fi and GPS has twin antennas located on either side of the polycarbonate prism head.

Can someone recommend a good quality CF to SD adapter and a place to purchase? I have a 7D and don't want to buy CF cards anymore.
