When you click on More Info under a member's name, it opens an info window.
On that, you can click on website.
The member's website opens on the same page.
It might be best to open the website on a new page, keeping the member connected to POTN.

I've never noticed it before, but it sounds like a good idea. The flickr links automatically open in a new tab.

I've seen this in other areas on the forum too. Can't remember exact ones. No link should lead anyone away from the forum. They should simply open in a new window, unless navigating within the forum.

Also, very annoying that my search is cleared when I click on a link within the search.

Good thought. I just realized that Rt-click "Open in new tab" doesn't appear in FFox.

That's odd. It works fine on my Mac.

It works, but not on "More Info" for me.

That's because "More Info" doesn't take you anywhere. You can right click on "Open Member Page" after you click "More Info"

I just now clicked More Info on your avatar on your post. It opened up the More Info Window. I clicked on Website. It completely closed the POTN window and opened your website with no path back to POTN other than Back on the browser.

Edit: if a change is made, rather than opening the member's website in a new window, I think a better solution would be to open More Info in a new window. That way, no matter what is clicked or linked on a member's More Info page, that window can be closed and the user is back where they started.

If you right click on website and open in new window or tab, it will not have a path back to POTN because it will be a new window/tab. You just X out of it when you are done and the POTN window/tab will still be open. If you just click it, it will navigate away from POTN but you will still be able to hit the back button.

You're missing the point. Lots of people don't right-click anything, neither do they go thru the trouble of opening up new tabs or windows. They see a link, they click it. Less hurdles to jump over. A well-designed website will always be designed with the least-common denominator in mind for ease of usability.

I'm not saying you should right click anything. I was just explaining to PhotosGuy why right clicking on "more info" doesn't work.

A well designed website will not take you away from it. Any link that leads outside of said website needs to open a new tab or window for that link.

It does here. If I do it with ctrl+click I get the sub menu and can choose OPEN IN NEW WINDOW, which it then does. If I do a cmnd+click it opens the link in a new window immediately.

Of course, but what is the most common expectation for an action when you click a link:

- open it into a new tab
- open in into the same tab

Either way as default will get complaints :) All browsers have (internal) default setting that links open to the same window/tab. I think that tells what the most common action is.

Still, I have a "personal" AMASS design rule that all external links open to a new tab. So those member website links will be fixed to act so.

Thanks.

Search should not be cleared when clicking a link inside search result window. It is cleared when you click links on a page, outside the search interface.

With the next version you can choose always to keep the last result.
