Fuji x100s or 100T

I was ready to purchase the x100T at BH since the price dropped to $1098 but when I checked today the price went back up, with that said they do have the X100s silver for $878, For those who have the camera is the upgrade worth it? I am a DSLR user with multiple lens and thought this might be a cool toy to tote around since the Canon is so heavy.

what are your thoughts about IQ between the two and between the Fuji and regular Canon DSLR L lens. ?

Hi, Barbara - as a Canon and Fuji X-T1 shooter, I picked up a x100T earlier this year for the purpose of having a small, easy to carry camera with me most of the time and couldn't be happier with the image quality and features. It's definitely a serious camera (not to be compared (or confused) with a compact or point and shoot), and takes some time to master. If you want something you can easily keep with you all the time and get excellent quality images, I would recommend it. Some have complained about Fuji raw files, but I find them superior to Canon for recovery of shadows and highlights.

I tried to find the best subject/composition comparison I had for the x100T and a shot with Canon L glass. The first is the Canon 24-105L, second Fuji:

Wow very impressive, Love the B&W photo's which is a main reason for wanting the Fuji. I spoke to BH and the Fuji guy said he prefers the T over the S and said it will go on sale again in a month so I will keep a look out and snatch it up quickly.

The T has several improvements over the X, unfortunately wireless is one of them. I'm still hoping I have some extra cash soon so that I can still snatch one of the S models before they're completely gone.

I checked the manual for the T and there seems to be no way to permanently turn that off.

Wi-fi has to be turned on, and can be disconnected. The camera does not constantly send out/receive wi-fi signal.

One more X100T B&W:

What kind of case do you use for your T model I like the brown case but people complain that the case does not fit correctly. I guess I will be waiting for the price to drop again, the salesman at BH said it would be about a month.

Yeah, Fuji usually has price cuts/rebates every 60-90 days. I don't have a case, just a Leica strap, and I keep it in a small nylon camera bag when I'm in the car. I don't think you would regret getting it. It's actually the camera I most enjoy using of all I own.

I tell you what. I rolled my eyes at Wifi, but have loved having it. The ability to quickly download shots to my iPhone while on travel has made this invaluable. The 100T from what I understand is much snappier and better Autofocus as well. Overall I'd say get the 100T. I have mine for the exact same reason as you. Something easy to lug around when I don't want to take my DSLR around. I admittedly went through a spurt where I wanted to sell the Fuji since I wasn't really using it, but it was because I was using my Canon 5D3 a lot and not really traveling. Then just recently I went on a few trips in which having the X100T with me got me tons of nice snapshots that I otherwise wouldn't have, and it reproved it's worth all over again.

Basically, I tell anyone now that the Fuji won't replace your DSLR...and if you attempt to use it to get shots you'd normally just get with your DSLR (IE, if you brought out the Fuji instead of your DSLR when you would have been perfectly OK taking your DSLR with you), I've ended up not quite that happy. However, when I use the Fuji in the exact manner as I intended when I bought the thing, IE taking it when I don't want to lug around my DSLR and on light travel trips, it has been awesome.

I have a mint condition silver X100S that I'm considering selling. Haven't gotten around to making a listing in the B&S boards, but all metal surfaces have been gaff taped since it was unboxed, lens covered with a UV filter, and generally babied. It will come with a ton of accessories (3-4 batteries and 2 chargers, thumb grip, wide angle lens adapter, cable release, etc). I'm the original owner and it's in the original box with receipt, and has maybe under 2k clicks, if memory serves me correctly. If anyone is interested please let me know. I'll get around to making a posting this week in the For Sale board.

I've been buying and selling here for probably 7-8 years with flawless feedback.

I know this is an old thread at this point... but I have to ask, why?

Give it another couple of years, every camera is going to have it... there really isn't a downside that I can think of not to.

Yup, old thread and a bit of a moot point at this stage, since I finally decided to stick with my EOS system and not invest in any mirrorless at all (the cameras might be small, but the lenses usually aren't; plus, the investment is too much for a complementary camera, with some lenses costing over 1K, almost up there with L glass), but to answer your question: I don't like connectivity, mostly for security reasons: I don't trust it. I don't want anyone hacking into my camera or intercepting transmission and getting my files.

And yes, it's a shame that most cameras will be packing it sooner rather than later.

Actually the lenses are much smaller. And if you're posting on the internet, you are already creating a bigger security risk for yourself than anyone hacking into your camera wi-fi connection. Not trying to start an internet argument, just putting things into perspective. That said, I respect anyone's decision to stick with what they have/like. There's no reason to change, or add to your collection, if you are perfectly happy with what you have.
