This model asked me to sponsor her head shots for miss teen pageant for our state. She said they were most likely going to end up black and white for the pageant website and program so we went simple.

Used alien bee soft box and 5dm2

C and c welcome

Lookin good. I would like to see it on a black background too though. Almost too much white for me. I would also clone out the lines on her stomach from her pants.

It's pretty hot for me too. Especially her chest.

Blake.....good point about the elastic lines from her pants.

Usually, with women, it's best if the light rakes them rather than hit them full in the chest: the former slims them, the latter widens them. When I looked at photo #1 I thought 'isn't she too fat to be competing?' I had to look at photo #2 to see that she ain't fat. Lighting, lighting.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying. The lighting is the same (besides the full card in 2). The light is hitting more of her chest in 2 then 1 wouldn't you say? bc she's turned her chest to the light. I agree she looks slimmer in 2 but dosnt it have more to do with the pose?

I think they are both too bright, too white especially her face but the poses are nice and she looks connected with camera/photographer.

Hey thanks

1 was a new/different pose I was trying out. I think it works but she looks a tiny bit hunched over.

Yep, body facing the light is for men. Body away from the light is for women: not only does it slim them but delineates their bodies better.

Yup.

If you wanna tinker with it more, I'd try with different tilts of the head. You see, she's got a round face, and these faces can sometimes look chubby, especially when the subjects smile, as the cheeks introduce shadows which in turn introduce texture. If you ask her to tilt her head forward or even backward (slight increments!) you can either get rid of those shadows or make them work to your advantage.

Take a look at this: http://www.allisonearnestphotography.com/files/FaceFacts_Miller.pdf (external link) –especially photos 3, 4, and 5.
