I hear these new lenses should hit the shelves late March/early April.

Sigh...or maybe I meant late 2006 (at least for the 16-50f2.8 ). Who knows when they'll be released. On another note, it seems the 17-55IS is being released in Europe already as some have gotten theirs. Looks like us N. American shutterbugs are last in line.

Yes, they all like to sell to the most profitable markets first ;)

Yeah, for around $400 you have a 80-400 mm !!!

About the new comings, interesting to see 16-50 & 50-135 or just all in one row 17-135 mm (looks very compact = workaround lens !!!). We must wait until we can see how they are performing. But if they are in the line of the 12-24 it could be an option ....

I think Tokina is doing intelligent steps focusing into the APS-C size.

Cheers
Juan

Would love to see how the 16-55 f2.8 performs against the like of Sigma, Canon and Tamron. Now those who are into the market for this focal length will be spoilt for choice. With the 3rd party manufacturers offering this, I don't find it worth to pay exorbitant price for a Canon 17-50 f2.8 IS. U pay almost 100% more for the IS and USM but don't get a 100% improvement in IQ over the other lenses.

If the 16-50 performs like the 12-24 and is built like the 12-24, it will be a winner!

Id consider the 80-400mm after using their 12-24 for the last few days I can see already they make a pretty good product that gives Sigma (and maybe even Canon in some areas) a fun for the money.

One thing to consider is that the 80-400 is not a "Pro" grade lens where as the 12-24 ATX Pro Dx is a "Pro" grade lens.

I had the toke 12-24 and I thought it was one of the nicest built and most robust lens that I had. Compared to the Canon 10-22, the Toke felt like a tank with really well damped zoom/focus rings, solid barrel, tough felt lined hood. Great motor for silent focusing. I don't know how their non "Pro" lenses are though.

As for me, I have the bigma for super tele zoom. Ah what a great lens.

I picked up the Tokina 12-24 two weeks ago. I am quite impressed with this lens. It is very enjoyable to shoot with.
