Jul 19, 2015 16:40 | #2 Better action is usually when the surfer is at the top of the wave kicking out or turning back in. This is not too bad for a first start. Try to expose for the face even if that makes the rest a bit overexposed Dave

airbutchie Not too crunchy More info | Jul 23, 2015 13:01 | #5 Hey Craig... Big fan of your portaiture work, good sir... I'd like to add to the C&C's of your introductory surfing photography... Shoot at a lower perspective... There's a subtle difference when shooting standing up and shooting while you're sitting on the sand... Case in point below: Sitting on the sand, perspective: IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/oujwYM You get two benefits of 'sitting on the sand'... One... You can play with DOF between waves/structures behind the surfer... And Two... If they take off/aerial jumps off the wave, they seem to go higher because of your FOV... Hehehe... Food for thought, Craig... Can't wait to see more captures from you... ![]() Hi. My name is Butch...

I think about this for all other forms of photography subjects, but I hadn't considered it for surfing.

On that note, there is also hazards when shooting at a lower perspective... People sometimes walk/run during your shot... Sometimes birds and beach patrol vehicles, too... Just an FYI... Hi.
