So Jet.com has been announced. They are claiming to have lower prices than Amazon and that they only profit from the subscription fees.
They have built proprietary software that will monitor costs and dynamically lower prices as you shop if the combination of the items you are buying becomes cheaper for them to get it to you BECAUSE of that combination.

We sell a lot on Amazon. As a seller, this does not sound like a good place for us. Amazon is already difficult to sell on because many sellers do not obey MAP pricing (including Amazon) and you end up competing against amazon ON amazon.

I though that if Jet is only profiting from the subscriptions that they won't be charging sellers the 10% or so selling fees. This would help us to keep things cheaper. I was wrong. After looking into it, Jet charges sellers a commission fee which, so far, looks higher than Amazons seller fee.

With MAP pricing, I don't see camera gear getting any lower unless manufacturers lower MAP.

What are your thoughts? As a buyer or seller? Just in general?

Terrible site to navigate, and some WEIRD prices, a t5i with kit lens for over $2k!!! etc..

Time will tell, but I would not abandon Amazon where at least you know there are customers shopping.

Not sure if to report OP for promoting jet.com or not. I will say jet.com's interface is horrible. a quick search of 7d ii and the first page of results wanted to charge me 1700$ for a 7d ii bundle. This was a no-name junk, no-name bag, no-name flash, not even a lens crap bundle. Given the MSRP for that is 1500$, 1350$ "street price" through CPA, and 1150$ grey market, I don't know how this is going to upset the camera market in the least bit.

My take is that the OP comes off balanced on that matter, if not a touch skeptical because of the fees charged to sellers.

ha...i am just posting because it is new and should be discussed. According to the description, this is the place to post to talk about marketplaces, good or bad, even to suggest places to buy. I am not promoting. It's new and I want to talk about it. :P But this post isn't about wether I am promoting it or not or if this is the right area for the thread. I just want to hear your thoughts bc I, like many others, am skeptical of any new marketplace.

I don't really like Amazon or Ebay, Amazon is very unethical (I know this from a seller stand point) and Ebay is , well, it's Ebay. Wonder if this will be any different....

From what I understand, the buyer will only see Jet.com as the seller. BUT Jet will see all of the sellers. The seller with the best "value" will be chosen by jet, the seller will then sell the item to jet, and jet will sell it to the buyer. So, the buyer does not choose who to buy from, Jet does. And, as far as the buyer knows, they are just buying from Jet. Not quite sure what Jet's algorithm is for choosing the winning seller though. Probably a combination of reliability, seller ratings, margin, etc.

I found the details earlier at work, I can post them tomorrow if anyone is interested. Def looks a little different.

As far as the camera gear, I have noticed the prices aren't yet competetive. This will prly change as more sellers hop on and sellers adjust pricing for sales. I did notice that they show Amazon's price next to their price to compare, but with a disclaimer next to it that says it may not be up to date. Seems a little sketchy. Dunno if any intelligent shopper would trust that without checking it anyway.

Jet barely even works in Chrome. I can't see any product photos - only text. Not ready for prime time, IMO.

bannedPermanent ban

Amazon.com has everything, at great prices (generally), has low/no shipping costs, and the most liberal return policy on earth. I am not in the market for another online retailer.

So far, not impressed with their prices compared to Amazon, on the things they sell.
Only time will tell.
Their CEO used to work for Amazon, after his company was bought for a few hundred mil.

Likewise on Firefox with my blockers installed, I get a big white screen with a tiny pin head spinning thing. Not interested at all.
