I know a lot about gear and prices. Most of my purchases are through Adorama, Amazon, Beach, and occasionally a Best Buy in the local area.

I know that five percent, maybe ten, is about the limit of discounts on newer gear. A camera on Amazon for 800 is not going to sell for 550. Scams are everywhere.

But what about this Canon G1x 2 for $600?

I'm very skeptical, since everyone else (BB, Adorama, Amazon, B&H) are firm at $749.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I wouldn't touch it. No mention of warranty besides 'square trade'. You are (effectively) buying a used camera with no warranty. Used G1X IIs are trending just above $450 on E-bay right now. I'm sure this isn't available as a refurb, yet.

The seller's FB is 98.9, which is decent. But reading his negative FB waves a red flag. Look under returns...it says a 10% restocking fee may apply. And then the warranty issue. No thanks, I'd pass.

For 150 bucks more you can get it new at BHP. They also throw in a camera case and Sandisk 32 GB memory card.
Also, you get 2% rewards, which will be worth $14.98 towards a latter purchase.

So that narrows the value difference between the two sellers.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

It's probably gray market. 42ndstreephoto has it for even less and if it's from them, it's almost guaranteed that its gray market.

Thanks for the advice. I figured it was too good to be true.

I haven't gotten suckered yet on gear, but there is always a first time.

I'll pass this time.
