Hi all,

I found someone selling Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC for 250 USD (used) in good condition, is this so much for this lens or worth it? Note that this is not PZD version but has VC feature.

Thanks!

Heya,

For $250 (less actually), you can get the 250 STM. I'd get the STM lens at this length & range.

Very best,

I am assuming this is an apsc-only lens. If so, 28mm on the wide end will require another lens, for most shooters. I'd rather have 18-55 & 55-250. I hear the STM versions are optically very good.

This is actually a full frame lens.

OK. Then it matters what camera it is being used on. For apsc, I would find the wide end wholly inadequate. The extreme zoom range is also suggestive of less than stellar optical performance.

I have Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i). I am confused now, I am between this lens and Canon 55-250 STM version. What would you buy if you have Canon EOS500D :) 55-250 STM has very good reviews online.

I just looked at a few reviews. This lens is well respected. My beef with it is the range. On a crop-sensor camera, a wide end of 28mm makes no sense. It forces you to have another, wider, lens available. Well, it would force me anyway. If you are going with a two lens solution, the EFs 18-55 STM and EFs 55-250 STM are a good pairing. If you want to stick to one lens, there are some 18-2xx offerings available that make more sense. Canon 18-200. Tamron 18-270. Possibly others. I see no advantage to owning a 28-300 lens on a crop camera. Not saying its bad, just that there are better choices.

Assuming you have an 18-55mm already- I'd get the 55-250mm, unless you're looking for an all in one super zoom, but even then I wouldn't go for this- this one is designed for FF CAMERAS, so it's not as wide as s crop specific one would be

Used the Tammy on a trip to Nepal
Shot a few thousand images with it on my 6d and was more than happy with the image quality.
Light and easy to carry, great for travel.
