Do I need a 600-EX RT?

I have a set of the YN622-C triggers, so I mount one on my camera, mount my 430EX II on the other and I have a working off-camera flash setup that I am pretty happy with. So, do I really need a 600EX -RT? Assuming I don't need increased range, can I get away with just adding a couple of more YN622-C triggers and another 430EX-II or two and have a multiple flash off-camera setup? The YN622C-s provide all the wireless connectivity I need, right?

Or does the 600EX-RT bring something to the table (again, assuming I don't need the extra power) that my YN622-C based setup cannot deliver? I just saw the Canon refurb 600EX-RT sale and it is making me wonder whether I need one?

Any advice would be wecome.

Thanks for the note! I am sure it is a much better flash, being the top of Canon's line. But my question is very specific and here is the problem I am having:

If I didn't have a set of YN622-C triggers, then I agree - it allows for wireless master functionality and controlling the 430EX-II I have. HOWEVER, I still would need a set of wireless triggers, whether it be YN622-C or the Canon wireless ST-E3-RT to control the flashes if I need to move it off camera. So, I am still back to wondering why I should pay more for the 600EX-RT in my situation. Maybe I should just get more YN622-C triggers and 430EX-II flashes as and when I need to add more to my setup. What's wrong with my thinking?

Rather, wait for the YN685EX to be released. It has the 600 features but with a built-in 622C receiver.

Yes. No. Maybe? I mean I'm not YOU so I don't know what YOUR needs are.

Do you know what your needs are? If you don't then you definitely don't need a 600ex-rt. If you do know what your needs are then then you'll know if you need a 600 or not.

Do you want to keep with the yn-622 triggering system or do you want to switch to the canon rt system?

If you want to switch systems then grab the 600. If you want to stick with the yn622 system then don't get the 600 and instead do like Clive said and wait for the yn-685 to come out. It should be able to get 2 yn685's for less then one canon 600.

Thanks guys! I guess my title was a bit vague. Of course, nobody knows if I NEED a 600-EX RT. What I meant to ask was - "What does a 600-EX RT get me that simply expanding my YN622-C based system does not?" If the answer is nothing, I would do as Clive suggests and either get the YN685 (s) or more YN622-Cs + 430EX IIs or whatever. Which is probably what I would do, since I don't seem to be lacking anything with my current setup.

More power and less money.

I don't own the Canon 600EX-RT, but I do own multiple YN-622's and the YN-622-Tx. The biggest difference that I see is that the 600EX-RT can control 5 groups Vs the YN-622's 3 groups. The YN-622 triggers have served me well over the years, but I am considering a change just to eliminate some of the stuff I have to carry.

The announced YN685EX has the same output as the YN600EX-RT, and it includes a built-in YN622C. So, for an expected US$120-150, you do away with a separate trigger and its batteries.

Perhaps it's time to replace all my other flashes, and some surplus 622Cs! And almost halve the number of switches to turn off after a session.

PS2 - AliExpress lists 4 suppliers at $200 (like Amazon), $180, $128 and $299!!

I see from your profile that you have a strong interest in ornithology. So there is another reason to look at the YN685EX - like the YN600EX-RT, it zooms the flash in to 200mm, providing a tight distance spot.

Just remember you get what you pay for... I know I would have love to save a few hundred bucks on the YN600EX-RT but the main question is durability, and performance when I need it, Who is to say when I need this flash to get that picture in a big wedding that flash with do the job.

So with that in mind I just went on and spend the money and I know the canon flashes that I have had seen to last, and be there when I needed them.
