No, just policy. I, too, have two covers on the way.

Parcel arrived 12 days after order - excellent. Old cover removed and new one installed. All back to working!:-)

Removing the old cover was a problem, and the eBay seller's instructions were not clear to me. I opened the cover, then pressed it lightly down to an almost-closed position. A tweezer arm was slipped down from the top end of the flash into the top centre of the cover, just above the hinge pin and spring. The tweezer arm was then inserted further until the flexing of the cover released the shark's-tooth latching. The cover was then pulled off towards the foot. The new cover was slipped back on until it self-latched. (The white paste is required for smooth operation of the cover latch when replacing batteries.)

The YN685 was only 8 weeks ole when the moulding failed, and would have cost US$35 to ship back to China (a company shop). So, many thanks to the poster and the seller. :-D

I found a Youtube video on YN685 battery door removal (link given below). Just followed it and the door came off very easily. Now waiting for my new covers to arrive. I asked the seller for the Consignment number which he is yet to share:-(. Would the new ones come with the white lubricating cream?

Either technique works. Mine is a single action, if you have a suitable tool (tweezers).

I received the standard eBay shipping notification; at the price, no more was expected. The covers came with the white cream, and i had to resist "cleaning it up"!

I found the rubber ring at the bottom of the flash came off easily. Will it have any functional impact? It appears to be a cosmetic item.

While reading through the Yongnuo threads, I noticed there was a firmware update. However I don't think I need to run this update or do I? I purchased mine Aug 2016.

Here's a screenshot of the version.

If you're at version 2.0.1, it's probably the latest firmware. Prior to your post, the latest version that I was aware of was 1.2.2. YongNuo hasn't actually posted any available firmware updates for the Canon flash as of yet.
