Hi all,

I have 18-55 mm kit lens on my Canon EOS 500D, wanted to try some more closed up "macro-like" shots, and bought cheap extension tubes. It does not have electronic contact to the lens, therefore not possible to autofocus. But also I could not focus manually, I tried, one tube, 2 tubes and 3 tubes combinations, setting to Macro mode but nothing happened! I could not focus.

So do I need a manuel adjustment on the body or extension tubes having problem?

Thanks!

You may have been too far away from the object. The tubes will prevent you from focusing to infinity...

Heya,

The extension tubes will make the minimum focusing distance much closer than that. Turn on Live View. Move close to an object until you see it come into focus (slowly move, depth of field will be very thin). You'll find it's closer to 2~3 inches or so. Not 10~15 inches.

Very best,

With a set up like yours I'd twist the focus to it's closest and move the camera back and forth to achieve focus
