Canon 10-18mm IS STM sample

Hi,
I was thinking to buy the Canon 10-18mm IS STM lens... before I make the final decision, could anybody post or comment how it is when taking group shot and not much space to move around. How's the image quality for low light situation? Is it fast?

Image quality is great, but it is definitely not fast. It has a minimum aperture of f/4.5 which is definitely not good for low-light use unless you use flash.

It is mostly geared for landscape and other outdoor activities (i.e. good light or on a tripod with static subjects). In those situations it excels.

If you want a low light capable ultra wide for hand holding in low light your only real choice is the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 or the newer 11-20 f/2.8

Yes it does have IS, but IS does absolutely nothing for moving subjects. So I still stick with my original comments. If you're in low light, photographing subjects which are likely to move (such as humans in a group photo) then the 10-18 is not a very good choice of lens. It's even worse if the group is at a party or event with generous amounts of alcohol, because absolutely nobody manages to stand still in such events, even if you specifically tell them to

I have used mine with people. As long as you give it some flash, its fine in lower light. It focuses very fast, I run around chasing the kid with it and get excellent results.

Taking group shots with a 10-18 mm lens is not optimal. Would not get specifically a lens for this purpose. Most people in the shot will look distorted, except the ones in the middle. The results make many people unhappy. Rather take smaller groups with a longer lens or then try to find a better room to take the shot.
