Anybody notice that there are some Credit Cards out there that will give you 0% interest for 21 months. Man...I am SOOOOO tempted to get my next "I WANT" item the Canon 100-400 II lens. Not here to push the CC thing, but just wallowing in my "self interest" contemplating my next move.

Got my storyline down pretty good..."heck honey, I have run the numbers....it will work". LOL

Buying something on credit = idiocy.
If you can't afford it, don't buy it. (Some exceptions do apply.)
(And those countries that don't live off debt are better off overall.)

So bad that I sold extra Photoshop SW, unused lens (300 f4 L) and other gear to get the new 100-400 II lens. Yesterday :-D Tests have shown this to be one great lens so far.

Cash, no hit on the budget and no need to justify (not that I do)

Well, would have been cash except the store wouldn't budge on the price (Thanks Canon price control agreement) or throw in extras. So plopped it on the CC with Areoplan Miles and deposited the cash in the bank to pay off the card so no interest accrues. And yes, I use my miles up.

I've been waiting for this lens and it has been hard to find in Canada until recently, so was prepared to make some minor sacrifices (they weren't really) to get it.

Got my eye on another acquisition so have more unused lens and gear that will go towards it (70-300 DO, 550EX flash, 28-135, etc). I plan my purchases and have some patience, so no whining or instant gratification issues to deal with. :-P

When I want something really bad (particularly high priced items) I force myself to wait... often in the past I see some new toy then read reviews and watch youtube videos on the item and get myself all worked up over it buy it use it for a week or two to realize it's not quite for me..

I want the a7rii soo bad but I didn't even pre order ..I'm going to wait and see. . And yeah I won't lecture .. to each his own but I don't put toys on credit anymore

I posted this from a satirical point of view...but...never really thought that there are so many people that are intellectually disabled because they use "credit". That in itself answers so many questions.

Thanks for the headsup!! ;-)a :p

I sold off some lenses and other assorted gear to fund most of my 100-400ii. However, I did put a bit on a credit card....... and had it paid off in two months. I didn't lose any sleep over it. ;)

You're right.

You have to be nuts to pay for toys (items not necessary to everyday living) and life experiences (big vacations) on credit.

I can use free interest for 12 months from Amazon to do large purchase for convenience. The reason is that I don't want to see a large chunk of my cask depleted all at once. I can leave the fund in my saving for awhile just in case of emergency. This gives me a piece of comfort knowing that I can pay off the remaining balance at any moment of notice.

My next big item is the 5D3 to compliment my 1Dx body.

So badly I bought it , 5Diii.

And on credit using a store card and yet I still remember my address and can tie my shoe laces. Haven't tried walking around and chewing gum yet.

Why would I take $3k out of my bank where it accrues interest when I can use someone else's money for free? Zero % interest when used correctly is just another discount to claim.

Come on? Really? You're comparing using a 0% interest store card for a purchase you both have said you have the funds to cover if needed, to a 19-25% credit purchase that the OP made perfectly clear he didn't have the funds for. Maybe a special offer card with a low introductory rate, but we all know where that goes.

As to store credit cards and 0%: TANSTAAFL

EnglishBob, before you try the walking part, be sure you didn't tie your laces from the two shoes togeather.

See the ZERO percent in there, because I sure do, where are you pulling the 19-25% from? . My laces are safe, Jazz, I hope you wear slip ons.

From the onset I could see that several posters didn't take from my post my intentions in regards to the post. Making fun of my insatiable appetite for camera gear, I was inferring how easy it would be to use the ZERO introductory interest that you accrue with purchases using the card within 21 months.

Simple example....$1999 lens with a monthly payment of $100 would be paid off in 20 months. As one poster put it....why use your own money when you can use a financial institutions. It all comes down to effective management on the borrowers part. Some people really took it out of context and compared it to food on the table and a roof over your head. It was all in fun....:)

Still tempted to do it....lol but will wait till this fall.

Or save for 15-17 months and then buy the same item at a lower price - which then actually costs you less.
If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Not slip ons.

I retired early in life by saving and controlling my spending.

Just sandals now.

Edit: No socks with those sandals, either.
