I also have a post in the "Gallery" Forum but it is very, very quiet over there.

If you have a few moments, I would like you to view this new site. Any comments, suggestions etc. would be great.

I'm also escpecially interested if you run into any browser problems since I'm using some new scripts and css.

Thanks,
Patrick

In the mood, so I'll give it a go. Next time just post a picture or two to more/better responses. I wish these were numbered or named so I could easily tell you which pictures I am referring to.

Sunday
JM - shot is just horrible. It is of a pot and is underexposed. Yuck.
LB - snapshot of a cat, what can I say?
ML - now this is a pretty good photo. I like the background and the sharpness of the snow in the foreground. I would consider cranking up the contrast a bit in PP.
PM - pretty neat photo, but I'm not real crazy about the crop. Can't say for sure without seeing the rest of the scene.
SG - Good theme and a good picture. The pock marks in the snow kinda bother me though. I would have moved the leaf to a more pleasing patch of snow.

Winner - ML, but none of these are really that great.

Monday
SG - Not really digging this theme. Maybe it would be better with a grungy looking customer across from them.
JM - Neat texture and great focus. I like this picture.
LB - I would back up a little on this shot. The crop is ruining it for me. What a junky yard! :)
ML - I've deleted pics much much worse than this without even thinking about it.
PM - Pipes with icicles aren't doing it for me either. Maybe I'm picky.

Winner: JM by a mile.

Tuesday
ML - good idea but the cropped off hand is not good. Get that hand in the image! So many of these images are cropped too close.
PM - The wood frame is totally skewed and bothering me.
SG- Cool shot! A warm looking cafe and a couple of well used mugs. Excellent shot!!!!
JM - Is anything in focus in this picture? I don't think so. Don't like this.
LB- Underexposed and boring.

Winner - SG - this is a really really good shot.

Wednesday
PM - nice shot of a toy car, but so what?
SG - back up back up!!! I guess it is just a matter of style, but the cramped up closeness turns me off. Let me decide what I want to look at, don't shove it in my face everytime.
JM - I would have angled off to the left some to get that knob out from in front of the lens. Also, the lettering on the lens is not sharp enough. A lot of motion blur. Kind of a neat photo though.
LB - Went to an interesting place and managed to find the worst angle possible. Why oh why did you take a picture with the flagpole coming directly out of that statues head. F-.
ML - the crop should extend at least to the tip of the longest icicle in the middle.

Winner - PM - and that ain't sayin much on this day.

Thursday
SG - DOF is totally off on this abstract.
JM - Clearly underexposed.
ML - At this point I've had it with snow closeups.
PM - too close, and this photo is begging for blue sky, not one marred with a jetstream.

Winner - none.

Friday
JM - nothings in focus and I might feel a little more overwhelmed if the crop was wider.
LB - Pretty good picture. Looks like you framed the shot perfectly. Just a tad boring. Needs a person or something.
ML - Snow closeup. :(
PM - a much better composed building abstract. The geometry is somewhat interesting.
SG - I like your flower closeup. Focus looks dead on.

Winner - SG

LB - Great composition. I like the statue, the creepy graves, the contrasty grass. I would crop the excess sky out and preferably include the statue's feet.
ML - Shoulda deleted this.
PM - there's gotta be a better angle here. Looks like it could be a really good shot.
SG - Neat-o colors. You know what really helps this picture? The man working in the background. A lot of these pictures needed something like this. Good shot.
JM - crap

Winner - SG

Winner of total competition is SG. I think these pictures could have been a lot better if more time was spent framing the shot before snapping. Hate to blast pics, but most of these were pretty bad. I'm now sorry I took the time to do this.

Wow, thanks for all of your comments. Way more than I expected. I'm sorry that I can't give you back your time. I guess I should have been more clear on my request since I wasn't getting any feedback from the gallery forum.
I wasn't really looking for any critiques of the images but rather comments about the site and concept. Is the design good/appealing? Were there any browser errors? Was the concept intriguing--7 photos in 7 days but only 1 press of the shutter each day?

I was just kidding about the time. I had 20 minutes to kill anyway.
I like the site. I didnt get any browser errors. I wanted the pictures to be a little bigger, but I run at a high resolution, so it's probably more on my end. Concept was intriguing, would be a nice idea to implement here maybe.

The only thing I didn't like about the site, when I pressed the back button from an image it took me 2 screens back. I didn't like how clicking on an image closed it, I found that to be couterintuitive. I would like clicking on the image to bring up a hi-res picture and only closing it with the X.

Very interesting about the back button. I'm not sure why that would happen. I'll have to look into that. I had the images at a width of 1024, but some felt they were to large so I backed them down to 700. Maybe I'll redo them at 800 or so. Do you think we can safely start sizing graphics larger than 800? Any ideas on a "safe" large size?

You have to aim at your target audience. For instance, if you are talking about visitors to a Crocheting forum....good chance a lot of those screens are going to be at 800X600 or worse. For a POTN type audience, I would feel fairly safe designing for a 1024X768 resolution. Besides, if everyone keeps designing for 800X600 then these lo-res tards will never change. :) JK Seriously, people that are serious about photography are not going to be running at less than 1024. Makes me wonder what % of POTN users are running less than that?
