The Flying Heritage Collection's B-25J made a few passes at the mini-airshow last weekend. The dull sky actually worked to my advantage, making it easier to keep the plane from showing up as just a dark silhouette... 7DII, 100-400L, 1/160 sec in Tv mode...

Good shots. It's interesting that it has only one .50 cal in the nose. Martin Caiden's book "Whip" is about the J variants with 8 .50s in the nose.

thanks, Frank! not all the J models had the "gun nose"... most had one .50 in the nose, and two more on each side in conformal mounts below the cockpit. the B-25J2, the one you're probably thinking of, had 18 .50's - 8 in the nose, the 4 side-mounted guns in the fuselage, 2 waist guns, 2 in the dorsal turret, and 2 in the tail. with the dorsal turret aimed forward, the thing could bring 14 .50's to bear, enough to make mincemeat out of anything that wasn't either a pillbox or a tank.
