What about the 18-135 STM for walk about and a 28mm 1.8 for lower light indoor shooting? The 28 can also be a low profile walk about lens if circumstances require.

Instead of the 24mm pancake, consider picking up the EF-S 10-18mm IS. It should work great for interiors with the image stabilization. Then also pack your 50mm f/1.8 for more reach, portraits and low light. That would be a pretty compact kit. Great idea. However I want to be moving to a FF camera soon, and not sure spending $400 CAD on a EF-S lens is something I want to do right now. Maybe I could look into renting one for the three weeks there. vengence wrote in post #17656798 For 95%+ of what you're going to want to shoot the 18-135 STM will be faster and sharper than the 50 f/1.8. The narrow depth of field of f/1.8 will be too shallow in a lot of cases. Additionally, for non-moving subjects, i.e. most vacation pictures, you get 4 stops of IS out of that lens. That rates the f/5.6 end of the lens as an effective f/1.4, that's faster than the 1.8 at the long end. At the short end, you're about 2 stops faster. And in both cases, you aren't limited to an overly thin depth of field. I didn't realize how much IS helps me. Thanks. dodgyexposure wrote in post #17656910 If limiting weight and space is the primary (or major) consideration, then give some serious thought to leaving the DSLR at home and taking a capable compact, like an RX100. My brother in law does have a Canon S120. My initial plan was to borrow it, but the wifey really wanted to bring our own gear and not ask him. I'll bring up the subject again. vengence wrote in post #17656930 This is a really good suggestion. I'm not sure you'd be happy in Europe with the focal length of an RX100, but it should make you consider what you're really giving up. The Canon S120 starts at 24mm. Is that the 35mm equivalent? In any case yes, this may not be wide enough. Lbsimon wrote in post #17656944 I have been several times to all the places you want to visit, except Lyon. 24 mm is not nearly not wide for the places you want to see. You will not be able to frame places like the Colosseum in Rome, or Notre Dame in Paris,or the view of the Grand Canal from the Realto Bridge in Venice. You will need at least 18 mm wide. Taking the 10-18 as the only lens will be really limited, so I would strongly suggest the 18-135. However, since you do not want to check in the luggage, you may seriously give a thought of leaving the SLR at home. It takes a lot of space in your backpack. Maybe a compact camera or a mirrorless one would be a better fit for your type of travel. Great information. Thanks!

Aug 07, 2015 09:05 | #35 I was determined to get a convenient zoom for my recent travels. I decided on the 24-105. Went to buy one and come home with the Sony A6000 and kit lens. Same price and I never did regret the decision. Kept my full kit usually not to far away for night, portraits and scenery. 5D mkIV | 35Lii | 135L | + some zooms.

He may also have a 18-55 STM, which may also help with the weight and space. jimewall wrote in post #17657643 Your question is the Canon S120 24mm a 35mm equivalent? Yes it will fit in baggy pockets. I got a small pouch that will also fit my wallet and phone in for when I am wearing board shorts or jeans. 5D mkIV | 35Lii | 135L | + some zooms.

I brought my 6D my 24L and my 50L. Europe is even more narrow than I imagined. Well I don't enjoy distortion in my photos I often don't have the ability to back up more to frame the whole shot. I regret not getting the new 16-35L f4 IS before coming but the fast prime is very useful. I also brought my G7x as a backup of for a light travel day from a hotel. It's got spirit! yea I remember Italy, I used a 16-35 2.8II a lot. it's what I had at the time, and my 24-105 was great too. BAG Reviews, master list!

While you can fit (not without difficulties) the Notre Dame in Paris in the frame with 24mm, you need something wider for Roman Colosseum or Florence Duomo.
