Looks familiar. Where have I seen this recently?

You don't want it much bigger - you're at 700 pixels now and the guidelines limit you to 800 pixels. So, for all practical purposes, you're there now.

Since the guidelines also limit the file size to 100kB, the only way you can make it bigger and still stay under the 100kB is to use higher level of compression (lower quality number).

the photo isn't showing now.

Since the guidelines also limit the file size to 100kB, the only way you can make it bigger and still stay under the 100kB is to use higher level of compression (lower quality number).

If you post to a host site like flickr or bytephoto or others you don't have to hold to the 100kb size just the 800 pixel on the longest edge. 100kb is only if you direct link to POTN.

That depends on what is most convenient for you.

If you have the means to host your pictures on some Web Server, then you can simply include a link to the picture in your message. There are two ways to do that - one is by using the "Insert Image" tool in the tool bar. The other is to simply type in the URL, as in http://blahblah.domain/~me_oh_my/mypicture.jpg (external link)

If you want to upload the image to POTN and have it hosted there, as you are composing your message, Go "Advanced" and use the Additional Options panel and the Manage Attachments button to browse for your image and upload it to be part of your message.
