upcoming trip to portugal for an amateur shooter. ultra wide zoom purchase decision at hand

good afternoon!

just got back from a trip to Puerto rico for my sister's wedding and rented a 10-22 3.5-4.5 from unique photo. had a great time with it and got some pretty good shots. 135 out of 450 to be exact. so now im a shopping around for an ultra wide zoom and its between the canon and the tokina 11-16 2.8. the wider aperature is appealing to me as is the price. the canon is pricier but I am already familiar with it. I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences with both and could possibly offer some insight/expertise into their experiences.

Depends on what you want to use it for. Landscapes, portraits, etc... What crop camera do you have?

its a t3i/600d... its going to be mostly architecture type shots. bridges, churches, statues etc.... first time meeting my g/f of almost 3yrs parents so I don't expect portraits, but have a 50mm 1.8II on standby if they feel photogenic. or im as big a charmer as I think I am.

I think both lenses are around the same price, so I would go with the Canon.

Canon 10-22 is the best of the lot in this range. Mine is just special. I love using it.

I would look at the new Tokina 11- 20 2.8.

wow $200 off is a nice chunk of change. refurb canon is $519.... decisions, decisions....

I originally had the tokina in my scope, the new lense is even more attractive, but at it's price point and a lot of the reviews I have read of their line up I think from a brand stand point sigma and canon lense have the better support system and quality control god forbid something goes wrong

Buy the Canon. Best lens out there optically. I've owned both the Sigma and the Canon, the canon handles distortion correction better, lower CA, better sharpness, better flare control, larger range... literally everything is better about it.
