I'm considering purchasing FotoQuote. Anyone use it, and what are your thoughts?

Thanks.

I have used it a few times to help me arrive at a licensing price. I think they are really, really high. Whenever I have used PhotoQuote rates and quoted them to a potential client, I have not made the sale. When I have used PhotoQuote's rates as a base, and then knocked 30% or 40% off of those rates, I have still not made those sales. And the reason I have not made those sales has been because the prices I asked for were too high (according to the potential clients).

I think that perhaps PhotoQuote's numbers are stuck back where they were several years ago. Things have changed - companies do not pay anywhere near what they paid 10 years ago for photo licensing. As far as I can see, PhotoQuote has not adjusted their rates to account for this dramatic plunge in the licensing market.

For the vast majority of sales opportunities, the photographer who is selling his own stock imagery is competing against Getty Images, Alamy, iStock, Shutterstock, etc. Look at what those agencies are charging for licensing, and then you'll have a good idea of where your prices need to be in order to close the sale. Like it or not, this is the new reality, and PhotoQuote needs to incorporate these new pricing models into their suggested rate structure in order for them to remain relevant (or should I say, in order for them to become relevant once again).

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Sorry it took so long to get back to this.

You make good points. I did go ahead and purchase it, but when investigating I also noticed that it hadn't been updated in 6 years. The program itself, not sure about the prices, but from what I can tell it's not a dynamic program, so the prices probably have not been updated.

What I plan to do is use this and reference places like Getty, etc., as sort of a cross-check.
