I have the battery grip from Canon for my 5d3, the shutter button doesn't seem to be working

Other buttons on the grip work, has the shutter button failed already?

Hi,

Have you tried removing it and ensuring the gold pins are free from obstruction? It sounds obvious but I did have this cause a problem once so figure it's worth mentioning.

Torsten.

Yeah, something isn't making a connection. Remove the grip, clean contacts(gently) and reinstall.

Be sure also that the pins themselves are all releasing correctly. They are spring loaded and should smoothly recess by about 1-2mm when pushed but also all release smoothly together. One stuck slightly would also cause this problem. As mentioned by Mark, be gentle. They're not flimsy but would break if knocked.

Let us know if you resolve this.

Went to the shop of purchase, they did that (wiped the contacts), didn't work, they tried their spare grip and their one did work, so it's off to repairs unfortunately

Just an update on this, the fault was caused by a "deformed" shutter button on the battery grip
Cost nothing since it was under warranty, if it wasn't under warranty, would of cost £50 plus labour plus taxes (for UK, VAT) etc and postage and package
