OK having converted my Laptops 500GB HDD to SSD ( very sucessfully). I thought I would stick it in an external HDD Caddy.
Then I saw this 2nd SATA HDD HD SSD Hard Drive Caddy Adapter for Sony Vaio Vpcf1 VPCF2390X UJ8B0
http://www.ebay.co.uk …ain_3&hash=item3ce08edeb8![]()
And thought well I never use the. blu Ray writer , so why not put the old HDD into the Laptop. Having had a few power issues on the external caddy - I thought I would be diligent,; and check that the power consumption of my old HDD ( being 2.3 Watts in read and write , and 1.1 amps max on power up ) was less than the ODD ( Blu Ray DVD Writer a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-TD03).
But I have looked for hours on Google and cant find a spec that shows the current or watts this drive uses ). Weirdly even when looking at other slim line internal Blu Ray or DVD combo units - nobody seems to show the power consumption.
Any ideas where I could check this , or if not is my assumption that., 'Blu Ray and DVD writers' use more power than a HDD correct?
My second question is :-
Having seen this :-
2nd USB 3.0 2.0 SATA Optical drive ODD HDD 12.7mm External Case Enclosure Caddy
http://www.ebay.co.uk …ain_3&hash=item41755f2466![]()
That seemed like a smart idea to put the existing Blu Ray drive in .
However the same issue arises what power requirement is needed ? Is it more than USB 3.0
I did note this came with a 5V power jack - that led me to beleive that they need more than 900 Ma . So that may shed some light on my main issue outlined above, namely if an ODD uses more power than a HDD - I should be OK putting the HDD into the BluRay bay?.
Out of interest are these hard drives for Laptops run on 5V or does one see 5 volts because they assume one will use USB power and there is a converter in these enclosures? Just interested.
Any general knowledge is much appreciated.
