Mississippi Kite soaring over Allendale, SC. These birds didn't approach closely very often, they seemed more shy than the Swallow-tailed.

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

Thanks very much everyone. This was my first time seeing these birds so I'm happy to add this one to my collection.

Great shot, there was a single Mississippi kite in our aggregation down here but never got close enough for a good shot. The last couple of years I chased kites around in s. Florida but you had to get lucky for a close fly by. This was the first time I visited this pre migration concentration- what a pleasure to be near so many at one time. I will be back next year

Thanks Bob, it really is an incredible sight and a serious challenge when they dive to catch insects. There were about 25 Mississippi Kites on the day I was shooting. I heard reports of over 50 on some days. I'm looking forward to next year, I would be going tomorrow but couldn't find anyone wanting to take the drive. Shame, the weather is perfect.
