I have this lens from my late father and from what I gather it's not possible to make it work with the Nikon F mount? But possible with the Canon EOS mount?

MD will not adapt at all to Canon EOS with a simple adapter. There are people who adapt them but they require heavy modification and removal of the rear mount and it only applies to certain MD lenses, not all will work.

The simplest solution is to buy a mirrorless camera, they adapt lenses with just a cheap $10-15 adapter.

You can get a crop mirrorless for as cheap as $80(micro 4/3), for a 1.5 crop they start at $200 or for a full frame the used original Sony A7s have been going for $800.

I use several MC and MD lenses with my EOS-M and they work just fine. Manual focus and stop-down metering only of course.

I made some years ago a thin Minolta SR (MD, MC lenses) to Canon EF adapter. (external link). There Ineed to modifiy the lenses only a bit, and with readjustment of the inifity setting I could reach infinity with the few tested lenses.
A year or two later I found such an adapter on Ebay, but it seems it is not avialable at the moment.

Buy a Minolta SRT and a few rolls of film...it's a fun combo.
