It took me a while to get hooked this year, but I threw in my line!

Out on a limb...

And a good ole poof from the safety of the canopy of a maple tree! Yes indeed, total shade!

Even the slower ss are working for you, Sandy. Another excellent set here. Wracking my brain trying to figure out a location to plant a bee balm next year. Backyard is all shade and front gives lousy bg! -?

Thanks Rog. I'm usually in manual mode, playing with the shutter speed. I have the best luck when the ISO is set to auto. I agree, the challenges of where to plant things is crazy. I planted this next to a maple tree, so it has nice light in the morning, but totally shaded by the tree in the afternoon. My secret weapon for getting the plant to grow so huge after I just planted it last summer...it marks one of my cats graves! I'm sure Chance would agree!

Thanks Jeff! That's too bad that they stay such a short time. At least you got awesome shots while you could!

Beauties! :)

I have the best luck when the ISO is set to auto.

I tried that when the hummers were moving in and out of the shadows; selecting my desired SS and aperture and letting the camera set the ISO. Unfortunately, my 5DIII (and 40D), tend to under-expose. Too bad exposure comp isn't available in this situation.

I do enjoy the challenge of shooting hummers close up. :-)

He might just strike it rich with that camera. Let us know how he makes out.

Thank you! They are amazing little birds! I like to watch them at night too. They usually just sit and preen.

Thanks Al. I bet you have lots of great shots this year, they may not seem decent to you!

Thank you Moose. I prefer to set my own ISO, but with these guys, I kept messing it up. So I had to put my faith in the camera to get me some decent shots!
