The focus is the last thing I see or am concerned with. I'm not sure what was layered here. It could very well have been done in one shot.
There is inconsistent exposure on the toddler compared to everyone else. Not to mention the crazy distracting shadows all over the place.
I assume this was a composite image and that's what the layers are?

Yes it was a composite and really my first time doing anything with layers. Was also my first time using speedlights or any lighting. Just ordered some stands and softboxes and have been playing with the speedlights much more to perfect it and get rid of the harsh shadows

I agree with BrickR and am a little confused as to the purpose of this shot other than maybe you had fun playing in photoshop? If I dare say ... there is a creepy element to this photo, and that is Dad. He has one skinny arm and the other one ... well, looks like he's playing with himself in front of his family. The little boy on the chair appears to be floating. The baby in the walker doesn't look like he belongs in the photo. He's too flat, and no shadows like the rest of the family.

Give it another try and have fun learning with all of your new gear! Looking forward to seeing improvements as you move forward.
