Further to update, it does seem that the 18-135mm is the favoured suggestion at the moment and so that is the one I will give a look to first of all. I have looked at the lens preview thread for it and there are some nice images there which make me keen to try.
Thanks for the help everyone !

Heya,

Do you feel it needs to be a zoom? The 18-135 STM is a great lens and all. And inexpensive. But another alternative, would be a prime. Your camera has plenty of resolution to crop things and still have a very printable image. You could get a 28mm or 30mm or something like that, F1.8 or F1.4 even.

My "walk around" is a mirrorless APS-C with a 22mm F2 lens. Ultimately I found I didn't like walking around with a big camera and bigger lenses while just walking around, visiting, traveling, etc. But that's just my take, something to throw out there.

Very best,

I have the 17-70 for my 70D and I love it. For shooting when I absolutely want everything to be perfect, I use it along with my 70-200 f/4L to get more reach. As my father used to say, "It's not heavy, it's my camera."

That said, I bought an 18-135 STM as a family vacation/travel light/business trip lens. I must say I'm impressed. It's compact, the image quality is good, and the STM is fast. Plus I can use it to shoot video with the 70D (although usually I don't think of video until I'm reviewing my pics after the fact!).

Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400
I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.

I picked up at 15-85 for my C100 and have also used it on the 7D2 as a walk around.

The 15 wide is really very nice to have on a crop - I would highly, highly recommend this lens.

They can be found for a very reasonable price used - that is how I bought mine - came as a kit lens so there are many floating around.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I had to google that when I saw it too... apparently, there's an EF-S mode!

Yes

Super 35 sensor size is almost the same

The EFS mode in the camera isn't necessary but it makes a small adjustment.

Set the aperture to F5.6 on the 15-85 and the lens basically would cover anything you would ever need to do - add the 18-35 F1.8 crop sigma, that Sigma has been updated to work with Canon's dual pixel auto focus, and you can film in any light with the C100.
