I figured why not get out and try to shoot some of the elements in these frigid conditions, instead of staying couped up indoors. looking for some advice on these and just what you think in general. Thanks in advance:)

it's too cold to comment...

just reminds me of how cold it is here...

now to the photos, I like the last one best because it has the most interesting composition and design aspects to it. I find with the first few there is really no "center of interest" and even though on 2 and 3 there are geometric forms they don't represent strong composition.

my 2 cents...

Thanks for your 2 cents...that is what im looking for. Personally i like them, compression seemingly has elimanated a lot of the details in these, i wish i could show the better files. 1 and 4 are the ones i felt were the strongest and want to hear more from others about what they like and dont like. thanks

I like the fourth shot, which is somewhat interesting. However, I think that 2 & 4 are just too abstract. Regarding the first shot, I feel that lack of any foreground interest makes it a bit dull. You should do well, if you added some element of interest in the foreground in the first shot, which would lead the eye to the actual elements.

#4 is the only one worth commenting on. Is that a shot of all ice or of mud and ice? It's rather B&W and dark/dull though. It'd be better if it were all ice and a bit brighter.

numba 4 could use as much contrast as you can get away with...ok thats an exageration, but definetly a tad more, IMO.

thanks for your comments...i guess im surprised no one likes the first shot, maybe my opinion is biased because i shot it. Is there something visibly wrong with it or is the composition simply not striking? thanks for your response in advance. I like the fourth shot as well maybe i'll try something with a bit more contrast.

Would this be better? eliminating the uninteresting foreground to help the viewer focus on the vertical reflectons in the water and closer view of the ice chunks?

I am sorry but there is just not anything in the pic to hold interest and make you want to look at it for more than a second.

ok thanks for the honest comments. Im posting an origional shot similar to the 4th pic(the one of the leaf). No editing at all has been done to this other than resize and compression. I was hoping someone could take the liberty of trying an edit on this in color and possibly monochrome sharing their steps to help me out. I think the hilights are a bit bright but otherwise there was not much detail in the shadows...any one got some advice?

I disagree, maybe it comes from living in MN and actually seeing the beauty winter can hold, but I like the first one, that and the second are my favorites
